Kona Kai
(515 Fulham Road, SW6 1HD tel: 020
7385 9991) It seems you can’t go a month without
another Tiki-inspired bar opening. The latest should
have west London’s well-heeled set breaking out the
Hawaiian shirts (worn totally ironically, of course)
and enjoying signature cocktails such as the Muu
Muu, which muddles white rum, lychees and rose
syrup, as the atmosphere hots up.With its bamboo
decking and fake palm trees, you could say that
Polynesian paradise has arrived in Chelsea.
East Londonmight have become a littlemore
mainstreamand upmarket of late, but it’s still
the capital’s go-to area for cool new boutiques and the
kookiest independent shops.
Pitfield London

Edvard Munch: The Modern Eye
You won’t
be able to eyeball Munch’s unsettling
The
Scream
this summer (snapped up for a cool $120m
in May), but you will be able to see some of the
Norwegian expressionist’s other significant pieces,
including
The Sick Child
and
Girls on the Bridge,
at
the Tate Modern’s current exhibition. There’s also
a rare showing of his work in film and photography.

Petworth
Want to escape the Olympic mayhem?
This quiet Sussex market town – about 75 minutes
from London – has a vast, rolling park (landscaped
by Capability Brown), an impressive National Trust
stately home, an abundance of antique shops (for
which Petworth is very famous for) and sophisticated
restaurants, including The Leconfield (New Street),
which champions locally sourced food with a fine,
City-worthy flourish.
