McCracken’s
€15
(4 Joy’s Entry, tel: 028
9032 6711) Tucked away in a quiet entry a
short distance from themain shopping district, this
fantastic bar is a great place for lunch or an early
evening dinner. It’s an oasis of calm in the city centre
and serves tasty food at reasonable prices.
Ten Square
€30
(10 Donegall Square South, tel: 028
9024 1001) This big and bold restaurant is situated
at the back of the City Hall. It’s a fantastic place to go
with a group of friends and is buzzingmost nights of
the week. The adjoining bar is also a good place to go
for a drink before or after dinner.
The Oak Lounge @ The Errigle Inn
(312-320 Ormeau Road, tel: 028 9064 1410)
This is one of my favourite bars in Belfast. It’s a
couple of miles from the city centre and is buried
away at the back of the mega pub that is this Errigle
Inn. There’s no background music or distracting
TVs, just oodles of charm and character. They also
serve a mean pint of Guinness.
Laverys Mister Toms
(12-18 Bradbury Place)
Situated on the upper floors of this legendary Belfast
bar, Mister Toms is a great place to check out the
Belfast
best up-and-coming local bands. There are also three
other bars in the same building all worth visiting. My
personal favourite is the back bar on the ground floor.
Sawers
If you are in search of some exotic
food, this deli is chock full of food from
around the world, so it’s easy to lose yourself
wandering up and down the aisles. They also have
a good selection of local produce (Unit 7 Fountain
Court, College Street, tel: 028 9032 2021).
West Belfast Feile
Ireland’s largest
community-run festival has a pretty
diverse line-up, with everything from political
discussions to samba bands on the programme.
Among those acts confirmed is Irish singing
sensation Mary Black, performing in the recently
restored Clonard Monastery on 3 August.
The Cathedral Quarter
Over the last few years,
this part of town has seen significant development
and has really started to shine. It is chock-full of
great bars and home to many of Belfast’s arts
organisations. We recommend a visit to the MAC arts
centre followed by a pint in the John Hewitt pub.

Yorkshire Pride
has been building up an excellent reputation as a fantastic place
to eat in Benidorm for the past 16 years. It has become so popular as a home
from home that there is now Yorkshire Pride 1, 2 and 3. Holidaymakers return
year after year seeking the restaurant’s great home-cooked traditional English
dishes at affordable prices. Owners Tad and Lesley provide entertainment
every night with the Tad Cocker Band. They also own ‘Bar Why Not’
situated on the Calle Gerona which has karaoke every night.
