George Balanchine’s famous
choreography, Karinska’s elaborate
costumes and the sumptuous sets are
as they were originally debuted in
1954.
One of the largest productions
of the year, the ballet incorporates 90
dancers and 50 students from the
School of American Ballet.

latest pop-up marketplace and through
Christmas the holiday market is open
next to the Standard hotel under the
High Line. Over 60 vendors and food
stalls entice shoppers down to the
Meatpacking district for a diverse mix
of fashion, accessories, antiques and
jewellery, along with bites from
Roberta’s Pizza, Red Hook Lobster
Pound and Momofuku Milk Bar.

Fame and fortune

Metropolitan Museum of Art

first comprehensive exhibit examining
Andy Warhol’s influence on
contemporary art with
Regarding
Warhol: Sixty Artists, Fifty Years
(
runs
through 31 December). Warhol works
will hang alongside works by artists
such as Richard Prince, John Baldessari
and Edward Ruscha.

John F. Kennedy International Airport is about 32 kilometres from midtown Manhattan. Every terminal has a taxi queue
and fares are a flat $45 (€36) fee (if you are going to Queens or Brooklyn go by the meter as it might be less). Alternatively, the
Airtrain costs $5 (€4) and takes you to Jamaica Station in Queens where you can board the Long Island Rail Road service to Penn
Station for $8.75 (€6.90). Also check whether your hotel provides a free shuttle bus service.
