Association (NAA), aimed at helping start-
ups and what are called “algaepreneurs,”
and theAlgalBiomassOrganization(ABO),
focused on pooling peer-reviewed research
onalgaeas a feedstock forbiofuels.
According toNAA founderBarryCohen,
attendance at the NAA’s quarterly work-
shops inHouston has been doubling every
three months, with 250 people present at
the last session.When theABOhad itsfirst
summit inSanFrancisco lastNovember, or-
ganizers planned an invitation-only session
for 100people, and360 attendees from20
countries showedup.At this year’s summit,
held inSeattle inOctober, attendancenear-
lydoubledwith670people showingup.
“We’re getting interest from all over the
country, all over the world,” Cohen says.
