Here are six things to know about actress Ellen Pompeo. One: She
was born in the Boston suburbof Everett, Massachusetts. Two: The
Boston fates are smilingon her. Herfiancé, music producer Chris-
topher Ivery, grew up just 10 miles from her childhood home and
knewher father. (althoughwhen the couplefirstmet, in Los Ange-
les, they didn’t know of the connection.) Three: Perhaps to recip-
rocate the Fates’ favor, Pompeo returns to Boston once a year.
“Mysortofceremonialtrip,” shecalls it. Four: Hersister, Maureen
Pompeo, stilllives intheBostonareaand isontheboardofdirec-
tors for the Home for Little Wanderers, a charity that provides
adoption services as well as shelter for children and parents
escaping abuse. Five: You can see her on the big screen in the up-
coming
Moonlight Mile
, whichwas partly filmed in Massachusetts,
and she has received a Golden Globe nomination for her role as
Meredith Greyon
Grey’s Anatomy
. Six: If youwere toask her, Pom-
peowould tell you that she still loves the city of her birth, es-
pecially its history and its abundant green spaces. In fact, she’d
probably tell you the following 13 things about Boston.

It doesn’t takemuch to do good.
I used to
feel completely overwhelmed by environmental
change. It’s such a huge problem, so what can
wedo? Then I just started realizing that if everybody
just did a tiny little bit, it wouldn’t be overwhelming.
Do little things, like shutting off thewater when you
brush your teeth instead of letting the water run.
Or, when you wash dishes, fill your sink with soapy
water, wash all the dishes, and then fill it with clean
water and rinse them so you don’t keep the water
running.
Also, I’ve just recently started unplugging
my espressomachine. I used to just shut it off. Now
I shut it off and unplug it. I make sure everything is
unplugged if I’mnotusing it. Theysay thateven if it is
noton, justplugged in, it is still usingenergy.
Simple
little things like thatdoaddupandmakeadifference.
I really believe that.

One has nice T-shirts.
I love the One or-
ganization. I think that they are really doing
fantastic things, and, again, it’s something as
simple as going on their website [
and
buying a T-shirt. If everybodywere to just do a little
bit every day… I think change is possible.
