Treating dogs with severe separation anxiety

Personal protection puppy training
Meet Courage Service Dogs, a young non-profit organization right here in Minnesota, dedicated to training and providing service dogs to people suffering from PTSD — and they just got in their first batch of puppies, ready for training. Courage Service Dogs (CSD): Our mission is to raise, train and partner PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) service dogs with veterans, law enforcement officers, firefighters, and emergency medical providers who have acquired PTSD through their sacrifices to our country and communities.
While there are other service dog organizations in Minnesota, very few train exclusively for PTSD.
CSD: Some of the tasks these dogs perform are waking their human from nightmares, turning on lights, blocking and creating boundaries for their person, guiding them through crowded areas, alerting to flashbacks, calming anxiety, and a lot more. SWD: We understand you are about to start training your first service puppies — congratulations!

CSD: In a nutshell, loving, responsible, and dedicated foster families who are committed to help train quality service dogs make good raisers. Courage Service Dogs utilizes a rotation system in our puppy training program, so each puppy will rotate through multiple homes during their training period. And we provide the services of our dogs, with the exception of a minimal application fee, at no cost to the recipients. After exhausting all of the traditional treatments for PTSD, I was introduced to the idea of acquiring a service dog to help alleviate my debilitating symptoms. Courage Service Dogs provide all of the necessary supplies, including food, vet care, and any other approved expenses incurred by the foster family, so while it’s is a huge commitment, the experience is rewarding and also a lot of fun!

In addition to providing a wider variety of experiences for the dog, the rotation program addresses the attachment issues both the puppies AND people face. I received my amazing service dog, Bella, 4 years ago, and she has changed my life in extraordinary ways.
