Treating dogs with severe separation anxiety

Personal protection puppy training
It is very important to train your dog not to bite, as that might cause serious injuries to you, your family members or even strangers.
If you try everything mentioned above and your dog continues to bite, consult with your veterinarian or a specialized dog trainer for help.
As a dog owner, you have to train your dog well and help it get rid of any inappropriate behaviour. Dogs are our best friends, however an untrained dog can be a source of headaches and problems instead of being a source of joy and fun. If You Want To Quickly Solve Any Behavior Problem Your Dog Has, then please click the link below to get the details.
When people bring a new puppy home they are often confronted by problems that were never expected.
To understand how to solve the problem of a biting puppy you must first understand why a pup is biting. When pups first move into a human environment it takes a period of time, usually a week or so for them to recognize their human family is now their new pack members.
Puppies need to learn how to live with their new human pack members and it's the humans who need to educate them. People that are involved in dog sports or people who want to do more advanced obedience and protection training need to preserve and build prey drive.
Pet owners are often mistakenly told “YOU SHOULD NEVER PLAY TUG GAMES WITH YOUR PET” because it makes your dog (puppy) possessive and aggressive. This is simply not true.
To increase the value of your toys the dog need to understand that all toys are YOUR TOYS and not HIS TOYS.
This training is all covered in the DVD I produced titled The Power of Playing Tug with Your Dog.
Take advantage of the free 85 page eBook I wrote titled The Power of Training Dogs with Markers and the DVD by the same name.
For questions related to training, you can check our extensive Q&A section or contact Cindy if your question has not been asked. Indeed, nipping and mouthing are natural, usually non-aggressive behaviors that dogs use to communicate during play and normal interaction with other pets and people.
However, an aggressive dog often has a stiff body, a wrinkled muzzle, erect ears, tense facial muscles, and possibly exposed teeth.
Dogs can also learn bite inhibition from people: First, play with your dog, letting him or her nip and mouth your hands.
If your dog nips or mouths while being petted or scratched, feed your dog small treats from your free hand to accustom him to being touched without being able to nip or mouth.
Show your dog that you appreciate their companionship by spending time with them; they will do what they are asked to do when they feel like they are a part of the family.
It is very important to be patient while training your dog, It is going to take some time for your dog to make the needed changes that will turn him to the dog you want him to be. However there are a lot of experts that have published books or taped videos showing the average person effective techniques that will make it easy for your dog to get rid of its bad habits.

This play involves physical activity games; they push each other around and bite one another. Puppies think they are playing with new friends and humans think the puppy is being aggressive. When puppies chase balls or run after sticks or bite your pant legs this is an example of prey drive not aggression.
It's our job to show the puppy an alternative behavior that satisfies the puppies drives to bite. When the game of tug is done correctly it becomes a tool that can be used in obedience training or agility training or one of the biting sports.
In fact they are never off leash until they are old enough to be trained to come when called in the face of distractions.
Some dogs use their mouths out of fear or frustration, which can indicate a problem with aggression.
Time-outs are often effective for reducing nipping and mouthing in adolescent and adult dogs.
Before you interact with your dog, spray the deterrent on areas of your body and clothing that your dog likes to mouth. Owners of dogs who might be nipping, mouthing, or biting as an aggressive behavior would do well to consult a qualified professional, such as a veterinarian, a certified applied animal behaviorist (CAAB or ACAAB), or a board-certified veterinary behaviorist (DACVB). If you do not want your family beaten by your pet dog, you need to know the tips of training a dog not to bite. If you are bitten by your puppy while you are playing with him, you must change the way you play with him. Stay away from hostile behavior with your dogs that will only make them want to bite even more. Some of them provide videos that show dog owners what to do to get their dogs to obey them step by step. They bite, they chew-on family members, they chase human family members just as they did with their littermates.
When a handler takes the dogs collar and tries to force it into a dog crate and the dog turns and tries to bite - this is aggression - either fear based or something else. The problem with this is this can often squishes the pups prey drive (which we use in training) and damage the bond between the dog and the owner.
The toys I use to redirect the pup from biting me are not the same toys that I leave in the exercise-pen with him during the day. Once you learn the game of tug you will also learn how to teach the dog to OUT the tug when you want it back. As I said, dogs and puppies need to learn to SPIT OUT the toy when told to do so and they need to learn to bring the toy back to you when you throw it.
Though most nippy, mouthy dogs are engaging in a non-aggressive form of the behavior, some take a decidedly aggressive approach to nipping and mouthing. Playful dogs have a pliant, relaxed body posture, and their tails may be held low and wagging.

Some behaviorists and trainers believe that dogs who have learned bite inhibition are less likely to bite hard and break the skin if they bite someone due to fear or pain.
Occasionally, a dog nips his or her playmate too hard, causing the victim to yelp and, usually, stop playing. When your dog nips or mouths too hard, yelp loudly and ignore your dog for 10 to 20 seconds; if he starts nipping or mouthing during this period, walk away for 10 to 20 seconds. If your dog mouths you, stop moving and wait for him to react to the bad taste of the deterrent. Many trainers are also equipped to handle these cases, but owners should ideally receive a recommendation from their veterinarians before proceeding. Make sure that your dog stays active and plays outdoors on a regular basis, as that will keep your dog happy and healthy and help it not think about biting. The DVD The Power of Playing Tug with Your Dog teaches you how to show the dog that the only time a toy is fun is when he plays with you and the toy. These are trained behaviors that are extremely important because it eliminates the dog becoming possessive of the toys. The DVD titled The Power of Training with Food trains dog owners the correct to use food to develop a level of communication that builds the bond with a new dog. If your puppy bites your hand while playing with you, you must yelp and let your hand go limp. Therefore, when your dog is biting you playfully, you can use this command to leave your hand alone. But If he bites you again, you must yelp and say “you blew it’ or ‘too bad’ in stern voice to stop it. Give your dog this command when you are putting his food on his bowl so that he will not get too excited and bite your hand.
As you continue to play, require your dog to become gentler: Yelp and stop play in response to increasingly softer nipping and mouthing until your dog uses little or no pressure with his or her mouth. His maternal instinct will force him to be more aggressive when there are people who are around him and his puppies.
If your puppy bites you again, you must stop playing with him and ignore him for twenty seconds before start playing again.
It is some solution that we can say, and you already know about training a dog not to bite. You can reward the dog by giving it a favorite treat when you ask it not to bite and it stops.
