The Dog Health Guide is not intended to replace the advice of a Veterinarian or other Health Professional. The L-shape of dog and cat ear canals are designed to protect their highly developed sense of hearing.
In cats, the most common causes of ear infections are mites or a weak immune system (which may be caused by the feline leukemia virus or feline immunodeficiency virus).
In dogs, the most common underlying afflictions are allergies (upwards of 80%) and yeast, both of which often result in secondary bacterial infections. Fungal and yeast infections can result in scratching that turns into a bacterial ear infection. Inherited anatomical abnormalities in the ear canal structure can leave pets predisposed to ear infections due to inadequate drainage or constriction. Medications are often necessary to get an ear infection under control, especially if the problem is in the inner ear or if serious swelling is involved.
It is very important to nurture balance following medication, and maintaining that balance should become a routine part of natural pet care to prevent ear infections and mites.
If ear mites are the issue, you can place a few drops of extra virgin olive oil or almond oil mixed with vitamin E into the ear after cleaning to smother them. Please Note:  Treatment of ear infections (otitis externa, otitis media and otitis interna) in dogs and cats should always begin with an examination and diagnosis by your Veterinarian. Ear infections in dogs are common but often owners fail to identify until they are quite advanced.
I will gratefully try these suggestions because nothing else has worked for my dog’s ear infections yet. My cat gets some kind of fungus in her ear so I hope your natural remedies will help her too. Our cat has a recurring ear mite infestation that she passes on to the dog who promptly gets an ear infection.
I have a dog that is just getting over his first ear infection but I will keep this article in case there’s another one. My dog had ear mites when I got him as a puppy and he’s had ear infections ever since.
My dog gets yeast infections in his ears sometimes but he gets it less since we started giving him yogurt. My veterinarian diagnosed chronic ear infections and said we can only deal with them as they come along. I think this will be my last floppy eared dog because the poor baby always has ear infections. An ear infection for your Morkie is not fun for either of you; and the bad news is, the more often your Morkie gets infections, the more susceptible he is to future infections. Allergies can cause ear AND eye problems and can lead to serious ear infections if not treated.

These external ear infections are easy to spot because of the brown, waxy build up in your dog’s ears and a nasty smell. If this doesn’t work, then get your Morkie to the Vet for an examination and potentially a professional ear flushing.
Your Vet may also recommend that you pluck the extra hairs from the ear canal regularly since they can tend to trap moisture, heat and debris. You can use blunt-end, rounded tweezers, or grip tweezers for dog grooming or even just your own fingers. It covers virtually everything you need to know to raise a happy, healthy Morkie, from getting a puppy right through to the senior years.
Yeast infection in the ears often look yellowy and crusty and it can effect other parts of the body too.
Thirty years ago, even though the systemic yeast infection called candidiasis had already become an epidemic, practically no one knew anything about it.
Candida albicans, which causes candidiasis, is a single-celled organism classified as both a yeast and a fungus. In dogs and humans, patients at highest risk are those who have taken antibiotics, which destroy the beneficial bacteria that normally keep Candida albicans from taking over. Like all yeasts, candida thrives on sugars, including those from grains, starches, and other carbohydrates. Leaky gut syndrome allows bacteria, toxins, and undigested food to pass through the intestinal wall into the bloodstream, where they cause chronic low-grade infections, inflammation, and allergic responses. In conventional medicine, antifungal medications clear up chronic yeast infections, fungal infections, and related symptoms. For human patients, menu plans such as the Atkins diet, which is high in protein and fat and very low in carbohydrates, are recommended because they starve yeast cells without harming beneficial bacteria.
Black walnut hulls (Juglans nigra), especially those harvested in early fall when the hulls are still green, repel parasites, improve skin conditions, and fight fungal and bacterial infections. Horopito (Pseudowintera colorata), also known as the New Zealand pepper tree, is a traditional Maori treatment for fungal infections.
Tea tree hydrosol, the water produced during steam distillation of tea tree essential oil, is a safe, effective topical treatment for ear infections, hot spots, skin breakouts, and other candida symptoms. To help dogs overcome candiasis, Linda Arndt worked with BioPet, Inc., to design a kit containing cleansing and detoxifying products. Another really good product otherwise is the Dermacton range, they do a shampoo bar, spray and cream version for paws and itchy skin on the body and also do an ear cleaner and drops. Unfortunately, this design may also cause moisture, debris, parasites and wax to be trapped in the ears, resulting in infections.
Unfortunately, a vicious cycle can follow treatment with antibiotics, anti-fungal medications and other drugs intended to treat ear infections in dogs and cats. Because ear infections can be very painful and result in chronic problems, it is really important to learn to regularly check your pets ears for problems and initiate treatment early.

She had a yeast infection in ear about 6 months ago which has reoccurred but managed to control it with medicine from vet.
I gave her some Thornit and told her to put it in her ears a few times a week, a little goes a long way.
I suggested ear mites but after checking he said definitely not nada yeast infection that may reoccur.
If you look on the attached link, there is photographs of different skin conditions in dogs, The yeast infection photo with info is No 3.
Below is an article that is quite good about candida and things that can help, if you still think its Yeast after comparing the pictures.
Crook, MD, published The Yeast Connection, the first of many books linking candidiasis, chronic health problems, and a high-carbohydrate diet. Recurring hot spots or infections of the ears, eyes, bladder, or urinary tract can be caused by candida overgrowth.
When large numbers of viruses, bacteria, parasites, yeasts, or fungi die, their physical remains and the toxins they produce overwhelm the body, and it takes days, weeks, and in some cases, months for the organs of elimination to catch up, during which symptoms such as itching or skin breakouts may increase. Double the recommended dose for dogs age eight or older or for dogs switching from a high-carb food.
The chemical balance of the ear and the bacterial balance within the body is often affected by these treatments, resulting in a long-term battle against secondary and recurring infections. Some holistic veterinarians also suggest making a pure, green tea that can be cooled and dropped into the ear. The Nzymes Yeast Kit is available in a small size for pets up to 60 pounds in weight and a large size for pets over 60 pounds.
Antibiotics, for example, can inadvertently kill off beneficial bacteria, allowing yeast to flourish. Candidiasis is an underlying cause of many skin and coat problems, allergies, fungal infections, dog ear infections, digestive problems, food sensitivities, and other symptoms in our canine companions.
Divide the human label dose by 2 for dogs weighing 50-70 pounds; divide label dose by 4 for dogs weighing 25-35 pounds. Some veterinarians have used Tanalbit for canine candidiasis for years with excellent results. Although onions are a highly regarded prebiotic (a food that feeds beneficial bacteria), onions are not recommended for dogs in any quantity because of their high hemolytic anemia risk.
