Author: admin, 02.07.2015According to the American Academy of Dermatology, onychomycosis or fungal infection of the nail affects about 12 percent of Americans.
The latest treatment available for treating fungal infection of the nail is one that is done by laser. You can set up an appointment with The Skin Clinic if you want to learn more about the procedure. Recent clinical and experimental data favor the role of intestinal Candidiasis in seborrhoic dermatitis. Pesticides and Candida Nov 24, 15 11:10 PMPesticides are one of the many indirect causes of a Candida albicans overgrowth. The most common type of toenail fungus is distal subungual onychomycosis (DSO) and distal subungual lateralonychomycosis (DLSO) . The fungus invades the nail bed under the nail, beginning at the distal portion (the hyponychium) and gradually growing inward toward the nail matrix at the base of the nail.2,9 The infection can also enter via the lateral folds on the side of the nail. The chart above depicts the appearance of a distal fungus infection of the toenail with lateral entry. Proximal subungual onychomycosis (PSO) is a relatively uncommon form of nail fungus in the general population.
The above table depicts proximal fungal infection in a toenail. An area of whitish or yellowish discoloration develops in the proximal nail in the region of the lunula (half-moon). White superficial onychomycosis (WSO) accounts for approximately 10% of nail fungus cases.9 The most common causative agent is a fungus called Trichophyton mentagrophytes var interdigitale.
There is a less common presentation of WSO consisting of a diffuse (involving the entire toenail) and deep infection of the nail.
All of the four subtypes of toenail fungus can result in an end-stage disease known as total dystrophic onychomycosis, which involves the entire nail unit.
If you have a toenail or toenails that are thickened and irregular, or have an abnormal color, particularly yellow-brown or white, this may indicate a fungal infection. Normally, the pathogen responsible for such infections is a fungus that belongs to a group of fungi called dermatophytes. Athletes, for instance, often experience sweaty feet, and they sometimes walk barefoot in places like pools and locker rooms.
The Skin Clinic offers laser toenail fungus treatment that targets the living fungus and vaporizes it to eliminate it. Doctors may prescribe antifungal lacquer and other topical medications, or they could also consider removing the nail by surgery if the infection becomes too severe. Research shows that Candida albicans is present on the skin of psoriasis patients as well as in the intestinal tract.
The main effects are red scaly patches on the skin. These scaly patches, called psoriatic plaques, are areas of inflammation and excessive skin production.
This can be a part of the psoriasis or it can be a fungal infection of the nail known as Onychomycosis.Either way the root cause is most likely Candida.
This program is composed of Six Steps that work together to conquer your Candida overgrowth. If you follow the money trail, you'll see that there would be a considerable loss of profits for both pharmaceutical companies and doctors if every psoriasis patient cured themselves with natural anti-fungals.
Fungal infections of the toenails also have the potential to spread to other parts of the body. The first three, distal subungual onychomycosis, proximal subungual onychomycosis and white superficial onychomycosis, are based primarily on where the infection starts in the nail.
This infection is usually caused by Trichophyton rubrum, a fungus that also causes athlete’s foot and jock itch; most patients with distal toenail fungus have an accompanying athlete’s foot infection (also called tinea pedis). The affected portion of the nail is thickened and yellow-brown in color, with irregular erosion of the nail tip. As opposed to distal nail infections, proximal toenail fungus starts near the cuticle, invades the newly formed nail, and grows outward toward the tip of the nail.
In this setting, the yeast can directly invade the nail plate without first involving the surrounding tissues. In dystrophic onychomycosis, the nail matrix (source of new healthy nail tissue) may become permanently scarred, and the nail plate can be completely destroyed. Note involvement of the entire nail, which has a shrunken, dystrophic (misshaped) appearance. It is important to note that ignoring toenail fungus will not make it go away; fungal infections do not resolve on their own without treatment.
However, other types of fungus like mold and the yeast Candida can also cause fungal infection of the nail. Generally, pathogenic fungi love warm and moist parts of the body, and they can invade your skin through cuts or through those small gaps between your nail and nail bed. People with existing medical conditions, like those with psoriasis or those with nail or skin injuries are also more at risk.
The procedure, which can be completed between 30 minutes to 1 hour, is non-surgical and causes little or no discomfort. The skin rapidly accumulates at these sites and takes a silvery-white appearance.Psoriasis usually affects the elbows and knees, but can affect any area including the scalp, genitals, fingernails and toenails.
The Six Steps include all natural anti-fungals as well as a special diet to kill the fungus. Many of the studies listed here treated the Candida overgrowth with oral nystatin. Therefore they will continue to treat psoriasis as if it is incurable and you will be stuck with ineffective treatments.Do yourself a favor, try the Natural Candida treatment. The medical establishment is more concerned with making money than any one patients outcome. This can be at the nail tip (distal), at the base near the cuticle (proximal) or on the surface of the nail (superficial).
Individuals with chronic (long-lasting) candidiasis of the skin and mucus membranes are at risk for developing candida infections of the nails. Prompt intervention with agents such as FungicillinTM can help to stop the insidious spread of toenail fungus, and speed the reappearance of a healthy toenail. The laser light targets only the invasive fungi and does no harm to the healthy, living tissue.
It is inexpensive, safe, available without a prescription and may just put you on the road to true, vibrant health once again!!Psoriasis causes are discussed on pages 18 & 19 in the book "Candida Albicans - The Hidden Disease".
The fourth subtype, candidal onychomycosis, is based on the infecting organism, candida. The below table helps to summarize the key characteristics of the four main types of toenail fungus. However, because the infection involves the proximal nail near the matrix, or source of new nail tissue, severe proximal fungal infections have the potential to destroy the entire nail unit.
Candidal infection most commonly involves the fingernails, although the toenails can also be affected.
Older people experience diminished blood circulation to the toes, and their nails typically grow slower and thicker, which makes them more vulnerable to infection. 4 The analysis showed that Candida colonization in the digestive tract can be one of the psoriasis causes. One group of researchers 7 recommends performing a micro-biologic investigation (checking for viruses, bacteria and fungi like Candida). It is fairly safe but there are side effects so use it only under a doctors supervision. In one study 9, 4 cases of long term, bodily psoriasis (10-25 years) were cured with oral nystatin within several months. This is the most definitive book I have ever read on the subject of the link between cancer and fungi.
They go on to state that a trial of antimicrobial treatment should precede any plan to treat psoriasis patients with anything more than the simplest topical agents. 3Nystatin is available by prescription only so you need to find a doctor that accepts Candida overgrowth as one of the psoriasis causes. You can search for a qualified local doctor here.Another way to find an alternative medicine physician is to visit the local health food store and ask the owner. Infantile seborrheic dermatitis often develops during the transition from breast feeding to using cow's milk.
Most likely other customers have discussed their physicians with the owner at one time or another. Psoriasis Essentials covers the many psoriasis causes, how to determine which type of the condition you suffer from and the best treatment options based on your particular situation.
