Corner Mike Jordan could be the best of an extremely talented and, now experienced, defensive group. The first team All-MIAA selection anchors a group of eight defenders who started for the Griffons a season ago. A move to linebacker for Kirk Resseguie leaves the Griffons with two new starters in the secondary. Meshack Kennedy will join Marc Harrison as the team’s safeties. Harrison brings a wealth of starting experience and Kennedy has seen plenty of action. Sam Brown will become a full-time starter at the other corner spot. The Griffon coaching staff has spoken highly of the long, athletic Brown. All-MIAA performers, Yomi Alli and Stephen Juergens, highlight a talented linebacking corps. John Oglesby will make the move from defensive end to outside linebacker along with Resseguie who comes down from safety. Juergens and Alli led the defense with 88 and 70 total tackles respectively last season. Arbanas Elliot looks to break out as the next great Griffon defensive lineman. An All-MIAA honorable mention in 2013, Elliot had 27 tackles, three tackles for loss, a sack and two pass breakups last year. Yanis Matulis returns for the 2014 season after racking up 30 tackles and four pass breakups as a defensive end last year. Known for their physical play and ball hawking abilities, the Griffons led the MIAA last season with a +17 turnover margin, taking the ball away from oppoents 33 times in 11 games. #MISSOURIWESTERNWINS Page 35
