POSTSEASON RECORDS REVIEW OPPONENTS MEAC PIRATES COACHES PREVIEW HAMPTON Pirate suport staf Luke Butler Head Footbal Strength & Conditioning Coach Luke Butler is in his first season as the head strength and conditioning coach for the Hampton University football program, here he is responsible for designing and implementing all aspects of training and nutrition for the Pirates’ student-athletes. Butler was quarterback at Idaho State from 2005-07, before he transferred to Augustana College in 2008. At Augustana, Butler set the school’s single-season touchdown record and tallied the most wins for a senior class in school history. He was also an NCIS Player of the Week five times. After receiving his B.A. in exercise science from Augustana, where he also served as a strength and conditioning intern his senior year, Butler was an Athletic Performance Coach at UCLA in 2010. From there, Butler attended Auburn University from 2011-12, where he spent two years as a strength and conditioning coach and received his Master’s in adult education. After leaving Auburn, Butler spent six months as a tactical strength and conditioning coach with the U.S. Air Force Special Operations. Butler is currently certified through the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCA), with SCCC certification. Butler is a native of Pocatello, Idaho, and he is married to Carolina Villareal. In his spare time, he enjoys outdoor activities, seeing movies, and traveling. veronica johnson Director of athletic performance Veronica Renee Johnson is in her fourth year with the Hampton University Department of Athletics, and coming into her third season as the Director of Athletic Performance. She is primarily responsible for developing workout routines and training regimens for student-athletes. Prior to her current position, Johnson was a strength and conditioning coach with Hampton. A graduate of Barton College, where she received her degree in Fitness Management, Johnson played basketball at Barton and was a team captain her senior year. Prior to Barton, Johnson was a point guard for Hagerstown JUCO for two years – where was a team captain and team MVP. She currently holds the JUCO record for 3-pointers in a game, hitting nine of 10. Johnson holds NASM (national Academy of Sports Medicine) certification. After graduating from Barton, she was the top female personal trainer for three years at Bally Total Fitness. In her spare time, Johnson likes to play basketball. Leisa Bailey Office Manager Leisa Bailey is in heading into her second year as the office manager for the Hampton University football program. Her primary responsibilities include overseeing the daily operations within the program. Bailey is currently enrolled at Norfolk State, where she is studying sociology and is scheduled to graduate in December 2013. Bailey is a native of Hampton, Va. and she has three siblings: Deja (17), Bryce (13), and Caleb (7). She is engaged to Derrick Barnes. 52 2013 Hampton Football hamptonpirates.com
