Hampton university - Our story HAMPTON PREVIEW COACHES PIRATES MEAC OPPONENTS REVIEW RECORDS POSTSEASON The University is comprised of eight schools, the schools of Business, Education and Human Development, Engineering and Technology, Liberal Arts, Nursing, Pharmacy, Science and the Scripps Howard School of Journalism and Communications, a Graduate College, the University College and the College of Virginia Beach. The University offers 68 bachelor’s degree programs, 27 master’s degree programs, and the doctoral or professional degree in nursing (Ph.D.), physics (Ph.D.), atmospheric and planetary sciences (Ph.D.), Business Leadership and Administration (Ph.D.), Educational Leadership and Management (Ph.D.) physical therapy (DPT), and pharmacy (Pharm.D.) The University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and the Department of Education of the Commonwealth of Virginia. Various schools and departments within the University also maintain specialized accreditations of their own. The University holds membership in the Council of Graduate Schools, the Council of Independent Colleges in Virginia, and the American Council on Education. Hampton University’s cultural achievements are equally as impressive. The University Museum, founded in 1868, is the oldest African-American museum in the United States and one of the oldest museums in Virginia. A recent $5 million renovation of an existing structure now houses the Museum’s more than 9,000 objects, including traditional art from Africa, Asia, Native America and the Pacific; African-American fine arts; and objects relating to the history of the University. The Museum also includes archival holdings, which now total 10 million documents including works by 10 U.S. presidents; and the nation’s first African American Poetry Archive, created in the summer of 1998.
