B R O N C O S 2012 season in review 34 28 RALEIGH, NC – In a game of must-win for Fayetteville State, the Broncos offense stalled as Saint Augustine’s University (5-3 overall, 3-2 CIAA) can now celebrate their Homecoming with a 34-28 triple overtime victory. The Broncos (1-7 overall, 0-5 CIAA) had the final possession but couldn’t get past the 20-yard line. The third-time is not the charm for FSU; as it missed three opportunities to win the game. Colon Bailey (junior – Manteo, NC) set a career best of 220 yards rushing from 37 carries. The 220-yard feat was close to setting an institutional record as a game-high. The plateau is 265 yards; which was set in 1993 by Clifton Davis. In the third and final overtime period, FSU had the choice of who gets the possession first. Since the Falcons offense was just on the field, the Broncos forced them to remain and attempted to play it to their favor. Saint Augustine’s Davonte Tolliver ate up six yards on the Falcons second play to take SAU to the FSU-19. Teddy Bacote connected with Christopher Dalton to get even closer with a 12-yard play. Tolliver followed with a sevenyard run to up Saint Augustine’s with the apparent winning score of 34-28. Saint Augustine’s won the coin toss for the first overtime period and put its faith in its defense. With the first possession, the Falcons chopped away the 25 yards in seven plays. Rowdy Batchelor entered the endzone for the up-ward arms of the officials and a 21-14 lead. The Falcons defense seemed to do its job on the Broncos possession. After a 10-yard offensive holding penalty, SAU sacked Andreas Hudson for a loss of eight yards and put the ball on the 41-yard line. Facing 3rd-and-26, Hudson found Antonio Allen for 26 yards and Chris Hubert for eight to place the ball on the seven-yard line. To send the game into double-overtime at 21-21, Hudson hit Xavier Molina- Williams for a five-yard score. The conditions had switched for the second overtime period, giving FSU the first possession. Bailey’s number was called after Hudson threw two passes for 14 yards to reach the eight-yard line. Three rushes later, Bailey put FSU was on top 28-21. In the bottom of the second overtime, Saint Augustine’s caught a break after a pass interference call that placed the ball on the one-yard line and a 1st-and-goal situation. Three plays later, Roderick Davenport entered the endzone for a 28-all tie. In the second half of regulation, Fayetteville State was the first to put points on the board. During the Broncos second drive, Colon Bailey moved the ball five times for 33 yards. Andreas Hudson connected with Chris Hubert for 24 yards and Anthony Duran for 11. Bailey walked the ball into the endzone with a one-yard carry and the 7-0 lead. The total drive was nine plays for 71 yards. Saint Augustine’s responded to the score with one of their own on the pursuing drive. The Falcons drove 69 yards with nine plays in a little over three minutes. Jermaine Jones recovered a Tyron Laughinghouse fumble on the FSU oneyard line and continued it for the touchdown and a tied Scores by Quarters 1 2 3 4 OT O1 O2 O3 Total Fayetteville State 0 0 7 7 14 14 0 0 28 Saint Augustine’s 0 0 7 7 20 0 13 0 34 Qtr.
