B R O N C O S 2012 season in review 27 3 MURFREESBORO, NC – Fayetteville State running back Andre Montgomery (Fr., Goldsboro, NC) rushed for a career-high 123 yards on 20 carries Saturday evening, but it was not enough as the Broncos fell to the Chowan Hawks 27-3 at Garrison Stadium. It was conference road opener for Fayetteville State, who falls to 1-4 on the season and 0-2 in CIAA action. The Hawks improve to 3-2 overall and 2-0 in conference play. The Broncos, led by Montgomery, set a new season-high with 241 yards rushing as Colon Bailey, Jr. (Jr., Manteo, NC) added 68 yards on 17 carries, Chauncey Concepcion (So., Charlotte, NC) had 31 yards on six carries and Andreas Hudson (Sr., Philadelphia, PA) contributed 19 yards on three carries. Concepcion and Hudson combined to go 12-of-32 passing for 109 yards, with Antonio Allen (Jr., Raleigh, NC) grabbing a team-high 47 yards on three catches. Christopher Hubert (Fr., Apex, NC) set new career-highs in catches and yards receiving as he had five catches, a team-high, for 27 yards. Chowan’s defense helped set up its first touchdown in the opening quarter holding Fayetteville State to a threeand out on its second drive and taking advantage of good field position as Cameron Stover hit Ryan Nolan for a 19-yard touchdown pass to cap off a three-play 38-yard drive. Stover and Nolan started the drive off with a 15- yard reception and Elliot Smalls rushed for seven yards on the next play. The Broncos responded the following drive as Antonio Mayo (So, Jacksonville, NC) connected on a 45-yard field goal, a new career-long for him, to cut their deficit to 7-3 with 3:57 left in the quarter. It is the second week in a row that Mayo has broken his career-long field goal attempt as he hit a 42-yard field goal last week against Elizabeth City State. The Hawks increased their lead to 14-3 with just over nine minutes remaining in the second quarter on Nolan’s second touchdown catch of the night from Stover. The pair hooked up for a 10-yard touchdown pass to end a drive that last 12 plays and covered 95 yards. It became 27-3 in the third quarter on two touchdown runs by Chowan from Smalls and Antjuan Randall. Randall scored the first touchdown with from four-yards out with 11:32 left in the quarter, and Smalls followed with a 17-yard run with less than two minutes remaining. Bryce Williams (Sr., St. Petersburg, FL) led Fayetteville State in tackles for the fourth straight contest as the linebacker recorded 10 total tackles, seven solo and three assisted, to go with one sack and 1.5 tackles for loss. Joshua Scales (Jr., Southern Pines, NC) and Michael Johnson (So., Raleigh, NC) each had seven tackles apiece for the Broncos.
