16 @MEACSPORTS MEACSPORTS BETHUNE-COOKMAN UNIVERSITY Bethune-Cookman 2015-16 Season Preview The 2014-15 saw Bethune-Cookman both the first season sweep of archrival Florida A&M and the best Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference campaign of the Vanessa Blair-Lewis era. And with four starters returning back and another key performer back in the mix, the Lady Wildcats are poised to make a deep run in the MEAC postseason. The Lady Wildcats finished 13-17 overall last season that included a 9-7 league mark – and three of those losses were by three points or less. B-CU registered a MEAC tournament win for the second straight year – this one over Florida A&M – before exiting at the hands of North Carolina A&T State for a second straight season. It’ll be Kendra Cooper from the outside and Kailyn Williams inside when Bethune-Cookman takes the court. Cooper, a junior from Spring, Texas, is the top returning scorer after averaging 14.0 points per game. She drained a conference-best 97 3pointers last season and was seventh in 3-point field goal percentage, connecting on 35 percent of her attempts. Williams, a junior from New Orleans, finished third in the nation in blocked shots last year, rejecting 4.3 shots per game. Named a first-team All MEAC performer, as well as a second team HBCU All American by Boxtorow.com, Williams set a school single-season record with those 124 blocks and has already set the career blocks record. Also returning is Jasmine Knowles, a senior guard who averaged 7.5 points, and point guard Emily Williams, who averaged 5.5 points before a season ending-injury. Taylor Houston, a junior guard, is back after a one-year absence. Other players to watch include sophomore guard JaVannah Jackson, senior guard April Johnson, sophomore forward Lyndsey Edwards and junior forward Alea Godfrey. Blair-Lewis’ recruiting class included Chasimmie Brown (Deltona, Florida/ Deltona H.S.) and Armani Walker (Palm Coast, Florida/Flagler Palm Coast H.S.) alongside with junior college transfer Rau Jua Terry (Louisville, Kentucky/Georgia Perimeter College). Also new to the program is Associate Head Coach Niki Washington, who spent the past six seasons as Head Coach at Lynn University.
