RETURNING SQUADMEMBERS Ty’Quan Hayes QB 6-1 210 Jr. Dillon, SC 5 Independence CC 2013 - Appeared in five games at quaterback as a junior attempting 10 carries for 40 yards and a touchdown...Recorded a season-high five carries for 25 yards with a touchdown at eventual Division II National Champion Northwest Missouri...Also totaled two carries in wins over Lincoln and Lindenwood-Belleville. Prior to Southern - Hayes comes to Southern after a year at Independence Community College in Kansas where he was an All-Conference pick ... That season, he rushed for 457 yards, while completing 63 passes for 685yards and four touchdowns through the air and two on the ground ... Hayes played high school football at Dillon High School for coach Jackie Hayes ... He was an All-State, All-Region and conference Co-Player of the Year ... He won two state championships titles in 2008-2009, while breaking school records for most TD passes (32) and passing yards. Covington HS 2 2013 - Earned All-MIAA honorable mention honors at quarterback starting all 10 games under center as he ranked second on the team in rushing with 788 yards on 142 carries, an average of 5.5 yards and led the team with nine rushing touchdowns...Threw for 855 yards through the air completing 49-of-87 passes (56.3 %) and five touchdowns and three interceptions....Ran for a season-high 225 yards on 21 carries and a touchdown in Southern’s win at home over Central Missouri... Threw for a season-best 232 yards on 10-of-11 passing through the air and two touchdowns in Southern’s season-opening win at home over Central Oklahoma. 2012 - McDowell played in seven games at quarterback as a true freshman completing 8-of-15 passes for 152 yards while rushing 22 times for 172 yards and a touchdown. Passed for a season-high 110 yards on 6-of-11 passing at Lindenwood. Rushed for a season-high 106 yards on 9 carries in Southern’s homecoming victory over South Dakota School of Mines, including a 80-yard touchdown run, a season-long run by a Lion. Rushed for 40 yards while passing for 37 yards in Lion debut at Central Missouri. Prior to Southern - McDowell comes to Southern after helping lead Covington (La.) High School to a 7-4 record this past season and a trip to the Louisiana State High School Playoffs ... this past season, McDowell rushed for 498 yards and threw for 356 yards ... in his career, he has 908 yards passing and 1062 yards rushing at Covington ... an All-District selection at quarterback and athlete, he was a team captain and named his team’s Offensive MVP ... He was also named one of the Top 100 players by LA Magazine. Michael Burks DB 6-0 170 Jr. Jonesboro, La. Louisiana-Monroe 8 2013 - Burks started all 10 games at cornerback as a sophomore making 13 tackles on the year...Had a pair of interceptions returned for 24 yards while breaking up three passes...Had a season-high four tackles twice in wins at home over Central Oklahoma and Lincoln...Had interceptions versus Central Oklahoma and Southwest Baptist. 2012 - Burks appeared in three games as a defensive back making six tackles, five solo, with two pass break-ups and one interception on the year. Recorded a season-high three tackles, all solo, along with an interception against Pittsburg State. Made a solo tackle with a pass break-up against South Dakota School of Mines, and had two tackles with a pass break-up against Truman. Johnquavious McBride S 5-11 190 So. Lithonia, Ga. Miller Grove HS 6 2013 - Appeared in nine games at safety as freshman for the Lions, starting the final game at Pittsburg State...Finished fourth on the team in total tackles with 49, 25 solo, and tallied 1.5 tackles for a loss of seven yards, an interception, three pass break-ups and a quarterback hurry...Notched a season-high eight tackles at South Dakota School of Mines while breaking up a pass...Tallied three games of seven tackles each against Missouri Western, Lindenwood-Belleville and Pitttsburg State. Prior to Southern - McBride played high school football at Miller Grove High School ... A three year starter, he was an All-County, All-Region and All-State selection, playing for coach Damien Wimes.
