After a lot of planning and a little elbow grease, I am very happy with my home fitness gym space. Having the right home workout equipment that would be convenient to use was important to me. My original plan was to use the P90X chin-up bar, which is supposed to fit nicely at the top of any doorway. Since my ceiling-mounted chin-up bar is so solidly secured, it's very convenient to be able to wrap the resistance bands around the chin-up bar when using the bands during my home gym workouts. I decided to create an area for the purpose of storing my workout accessories, things like dumbbells, yoga blocks, powerstands, etc.
I like to keep my garage in nice order so it's important to have quality storage space for any in home gym. I really like the fact that this areas provides a flat surface where I can place my water bottle and workout towel. This area also provides a perfect place to write down my progress on my workout training sheets in between sets.
During the P90X workout routines, Tony Horton (the trainer) provides limited time for writing down your progress during the workout, so it's important to have pen and paper nearby.

I chose to invest in a nice set of BowFlex Dumbbells because a friend highly recommended them. Although I like to have a few lightweight dumbbells on hand, I really don't have the space available in my in home gym to store a full set of dumbbells. The BowFlex dumbbells allows for you to quickly change the settings for a variety of weight options up to 52 lbs on each side.
During your in home gym workouts, you'll need to have quick and easy access of these lighter-weight dumbbells in order to get the most out of your workouts. Once I got started using the P90X program, I also realized the benefits of getting a pair of push-up powerstands.
There are a wide variety of push-ups included in the P90X workouts, so in order to maximize results from your home workout plan, you should consider buying a pair. The Powerstands allow you to go deeper into your push up, allowing for maximum benefit in your efforts to build muscle. In fact, I ended up getting a second pair of Powerstands so that my wife and I could work out at the same time.
The mat comes in 2' x 2' squared sections and they seamlessly interlock, so you can cover as much space as you want. As I begin to wrap this page up, I have to say that I am very proud of my in home gym solution. Creating my home gym was a lot of work, and I ended up spending more than I had originally planned - but I am very pleased with the results, and I believe that the space I've created will support my healthy and fitness goals.
