How to build furniture in sketchup, design for building a platform bed, restoration hardware bedding - How to DIY
So I drew a simple sketch by hand (on paper) first and made some measurements and wrote them down.
One important thing to note is the SketchUp lets you select by face, edge, or by dragging around elements you want to select. Not only does this help the client see what is coming, but it also helps us as we build the project.
But, when creating furniture, you want your objects to act as real-life elements (you want doors, table-tops and shelves, not a collection of rectangles and edges). Pay attention to how you can move around in 3D by pointing your mouse in the right direction (I found it quite intuitive) and also pay attention to snapping between components (that will greatly help you position objects in relation to each other). So once the Sketchup image is completed, we already have our parts list made and we have “virtually” encountered all of our construction dilemmas, saving time as we actually build.
