1977 Star Island Chapel Service - A Brief Description by Harry Baya

Warning: The chapel service was recorded on a battery powered casette recorder in 1977.  The sound fidelity is poor at best.   Sarita Roy, Harry Baya and the man who reads the children's story can all be understood if you listen closely. My guess is that a listener must be somewhat motivated to listen to these recordings.

There is a Unitarian Universalist conference center on an island in the Atlantic ocean ten miles out from Portsmouth, New Hampshire.  Week long conferences have been hosted at this center since early in the 20th century. Sarita Roy, and her family, and I, and my family, were there for a week in the summer of 1977 and were responsible for one of the evening chapel services. The service lasted about 45 minutes and was recorded on small casette recorder.

The chapel services were well attended and were often an important part of the week. We wanted to put on a service the conferees would appreciate and we did our best.

Though I was very happy with the music, the recording is poor and not everyone likes this kind of music. I think the spoken parts were interesting, especially Sarita's presentation on Betty Moody.   It is my hope that some will find this web site of interest.
