8. Rights and Responsibilities
(a) Conduct and Communication.
You agree to use VC9, Inc only for lawful purposes and in accordance with the VC9, Inc Terms of Membership Agreement. VC9, Inc may elect at its sole discretion to monitor the Public or Private Areas of VC9, Inc for compliance with the VC9, Inc Rules. You are expected to use common courtesy and conduct yourself in a civil and appropriate manner when communicating with others while using VC9, Inc's services. Any conduct that in VC9, Inc's sole discretion is inconsistent with the VC9, Inc Rules will not be permitted, and will entitle VC9, Inc in its sole discretion and without notice, to limit membership privileges or immediately terminate such Member's membership. Hacking, patches, and denial of service activity are strictly prohibited.
You may not engage in spoofing or otherwise impersonating any persons in the course of using VC9, Inc worlds. To "spoof" or "impersonate" means to assume another person's identity in such a manner that, in VC9, Inc's sole discretion, a reasonable person does not or would not know that you are not in fact such person, and/or to assume another person's identity in such a manner that, in VC9, Inc's sole discretion, is offensive, embarrassing or harmful in any manner to any person or VC9, Inc.
In the course of using VC9, Inc worlds you may not reveal any other member or non-member's personal information in any form. This includes in text conversation, on a TMA or linked via a URL.
You are entirely liable for all activities conducted in VC9, Inc through your Avatar Identity. In cases where you have authorized another individual, including a minor, to use your Avatar Identity you recognize that you are fully responsible for the online conduct of such user.
9. Harassment of another member
The term "harassment" means to repeatedly annoy another person, and as in the real world, constant annoyance often ends in a complaint to a controlling entity. And as in the real world, harassment is difficult to prove, and seldom one sided. Therefore, our determination that harassment has occurred is based on this rule:
-Any member found to have repeatedly used insults and/or bad or abusive language in one interchange (conversation with one other person) can be considered guilty of harassment, PROVIDED the transcript clearly indicates the member whom initiated the harassment, and that a staff member was paged and/or witnessed the interaction. When we receive harassment complaints from a member, we do the following:
a . We ask the member to record any text that proves harassment. They must provide at least three text transcripts, one for each of three separate harassment instances, in order for us to take action. Less will not constitute "harassment".
b . We then talk to the offending member and warn them that this behavior will not be tolerated, and that another instance will result in a 24 hour muting of their avatar or avatars. Two proven complaints will result in cancellation of the member's account and three proven complaints instances will result in a 12 month ban from the VC9 world to which he or she subscribes.
c. We advise the member claiming harassment to use the "ignore this avatar" function, to avoid further interchange. If the member claiming harassment instigates any conversation in the VC9 world with the offending member, we are unable to help further, as we then view the harassment as being reciprocal.
d . If the harassment has happened repeatedly in one specific locale, we ask the member claiming harassment to avoid that particular locale. Although this request may seem to limit the rights of the member being harassed, it forces the harasser to either give up or attempt to find the member they have been harassing. This second option provides us with substantial evidence to bring the situation to a close.
e . If a member is proven to have harassed three members or more and has had three separate complaints filed against him or her, he or she will be permanently banned from all VC9 worlds.
Other harassment issues.
Placing slanderous or defamatory remarks about another member on a "tell me about" tag is considered to be in violation of these Terms of Service. Any member doing so will be asked to remove it. If the member refuses their avatar will be force ghosted until the TMA is removed. A second occurrence will result in the offending member's avatar being ghosted for 14 days, regardless of whether or not the offending TMA has been removed before the ghosting period is complete. A third instance will result in the banning of the offending member.
(a) Our virtual worlds and associated web pages may contain information, communications, software, photos, video, graphics, music, sounds and other material and services (collectively, "Content"). Such Content may be provided under license by independent content providers ("Independent Content Providers") and other VC9 Members. Each Member and Independent Content Provider must evaluate and bear the risk associated with, the accuracy, completeness or usefulness of any Content. VC9, Inc does not pre-screen Content. VC9, Inc has the right, but not the responsibility, to remove Content, which is inconsistent with the VC9, Inc Rules.
(b) No Pre-Screening of Communications or Content.
You agree that VC9, Inc cannot determine in advance the accuracy, or conformance to the VC9, Inc Rules, of communications and Content transmitted on VC9, Inc . VC9, Inc is not responsible for screening, policing, editing, or monitoring such communications and Content. If notified of communications or Content which are alleged not to conform to the VC9, Inc Rules, VC9, Inc may determine in good faith and in its sole discretion whether to remove or request the removal of such Content from VC9, Inc , or take other action as deemed appropriate by VC9, Inc. VC9, Inc has no liability to you in respect of its performance or non-performance of such activities.
(c) Responsibility for Content.
VC9, Inc does not endorse, approve, or prescreen any Content that you or other users communicate on the Service and does not assume any responsibility or liability for Content that is generated by Members in the VC9 Worlds. We reserve the right to remove Content that is objectionable to us for any reason. This determination is in our sole discretion, and is final. VC9, Inc does not assume any liability for any failure to remove, or any delay in removing Content.
(d) VC9, Inc and Third Party Rights.
Content may be protected by copyrights, trademarks, and other proprietary rights of VC9, Inc and third parties ("Rights"). Your use of Content will be governed by applicable copyright and other intellectual property laws. You agree to transmit on or through VC9, Inc only Content that is (i) not subject to any Rights, or (ii) expressly licensed by the holder(s) of such Rights for distribution on VC9, Inc worlds. By transmitting Content to any Public Area and/or submitting Content to VC9, Inc (including but not limited to the submission of any ideas of how to improve VC9, Inc), you hereby grant, and warrant that VC9, Inc has the royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable, non-exclusive worldwide right and license to use, reproduce, adapt, translate, create derivative works from, distribute, transmit, perform and display such Content (in whole or part) and/or to incorporate it in other works in any form, media, or technology now known or later developed for the full term of any Rights in such Content and grant to each Member the further right and license to access, view, store and reproduce the Content for personal use. Furthermore, you agree to abide by the U.S. and other applicable export control laws and not to transfer, any Content, which is subject to such laws without complying with any requisite government authorization.
(e) Advertisement and Third Party Products/Services Advertised In VC9, Inc Worlds.
Linking your dollie and/or inworld possessions to web sites.
You may, at our sole discretion, link any website or file to your avatar or inworld possessions, provided the Content on the linked website or file is considered by us to be family oriented, and/or the linked website or file is not owned, operated by any VC9, Inc competitor or endorses any competitor or competitor's products or services. Competitors include but are not limited to virtual worlds, text chat boards and online simultaneous multi-player games. We reserve the right to remove links that are unacceptable to us for any reason, with or without notice. Repeated offenses may limit a Member's functionality in the VC9 worlds and may result in the termination of their account. This determination is in our sole discretion, and is final. VC9, Inc does not assume any liability for any failure to remove, or any delay in removing links. To the extent VC9, Inc authorizes such advertising, VC9, Inc does not endorse or guarantee any product or service, and will not be a party to any transaction between you and any third-party provider of such products or services. Furthermore, you acknowledge that by clicking on certain icons located in the VC9 of advertisers or other third parties, you may be linked to Internet web sites/locations that are not controlled by VC9, Inc. There may be some content on these third party web sites/locations to which you may be linked which may be offensive to some individuals, or which may not be in compliance with legal requirements and other rules, including these Terms of Membership. VC9, Inc assumes no responsibility for and does not endorse the content contained on any such web sites/locations. (PLEASE NOTE THAT THE "COINS" AND ANY OTHER "PLAY CURRENCIES" OFFERED THROUGH VC9, INC HAVE NO REDEEMABLE VALUE, AND MAY NOT BE USED TO PURCHASE ANY "REAL" PRODUCTS OR SERVICES ADVERTISED THROUGH VC9, INC WORLDS.)

Guidelines for Community Oriented Behavior
INTRODUCTION TO OUR GUIDELINES
These Guidelines are provided to help make usage of the VC9 worlds a positive experience for all members. The virtual communities are created by VC9, Inc staff, and are tended by the Inworld Staff who include: Acolytes, Oracles, Guides, Caretakers, Remote Staff and VC9, Inc employees.
INTRODUCTION TO VC9, INC'S WORLD AND THE COMMUNITY
Participation in our virtual world is not a game. It is real life, lived through your dollies in a virtual online community. The dollies you will meet in these worlds ("inworld") are real people, not programmed game opponents. Members are part of a living and growing community. We are much more than a collection of people or a virtual chat room. We have our own history, culture, stories, and taboos. VC9, Inc's world and our web forum areas provide an opportunity to explore and experiment with our social skills while enjoying the community found here. This exploration, however, should not come at the expense of other community members' enjoyment.
INTRODUCTION TO OUR GUIDELINES
Actions that are subject to being excluded from our worlds include:
Abusing other members or staff verbally, via ESP, screen text, gestures, or any other means of communication. This includes ESP-bombing and interruptions during events.
Impersonating another member or staff member.
Knowingly disrupting an event.
Stealing the inworld possessions of other members.
Slander of other members. (See verbal abuse above.)
REMEMBER, WE'RE ALL HUMAN
The most important thing to remember at all times in this or any online community is the person behind the machine. Just as you sit at your keyboard, communicating with other community residents through your online persona, there are real human beings all over the world communicating in the same manner. Approach others online with the same courtesy and respect that you would expect in real life. Always remember that online actions can have real world effects, so think for a moment, "What would I do if we were face to face?"
Consider the feelings of those other people in all you say and do. Respect others requests to refrain from behavior they or others may find offensive, and be forgiving of others mistakes. Take care to show consideration and respect and treat others as you would have them treat you. Think before you speak or act, or you may make mistakes that will prevent you from making friends and becoming a part of the community. After all, being a part of the community is what this world is all about. Just because you *can* do something, doesn't mean you *should*.
The majority of human communications are nonverbal. Remember that through this electronic medium much of what you wish to communicate may not come across through words alone. Very often a different life or a different language can add a different meaning to the words or expressions you use or hear. Make the extra effort to understand one another's meaning or point of view.
Before you speak, think, and refrain from obscene or offensive language. This applies to a public message. Remember that typing in all caps is SHOUTING, use *asterisks* or _underlines_ to emphasize a word or your words alone to convey the emotions.
ADULTS AND MINORS
Recognize that the VC9 Worlds bring together people of all ages. Follow traditionally accepted rules governing contact between peers, and between adults and minors (anyone under 18). These include restraints on language and behavior, and respect for privacy. Traditionally accepted rules prohibit improper overtures, sexual activity, and prying questions in exchanges between adults and minors. With on-line interactions, it is difficult to know with whom you are truly interacting.
RESPECT ONE ANOTHER AND RESPECT THE SERVICE
Please respect the rules, others with whom you share the service, and the staff members who work hard to improve upon and provide you these services. Adherence to these guidelines will help to make your and others use of the service a positive experience.
You must recognize your own responsibility in having access, and allowing others access to your accounts. The person to whom the account is registered is responsible for any actions from their account.
USE OF THIS SERVICE IS PRIVILEGE, NOT A RIGHT
Use of VC9, Inc's virtual world is a privilege, not a right, and those privileges can be revoked at our discretion. Failure to comply with the guidelines detailed herein can lead to warnings or your account(s) being denied access to (locked out of) the world areas temporarily or permanently.
By choosing to become a member of an VC9, Inc virtual community, you agree to follow these Guidelines.
Updated April 1st 2018
Any form of cyber bullying/harassment/verbal or written violence is strictly against the rules and should be reported to Support immediately with evidence.
Admins and Moderators reserve the right to apply a permanent ban if such a situation occurs.
Insults, extreme profanity (even masked), abuse or any similar conduct on these forums or in the chat channels are forbidden. Any disregard of these rules will entail a warning or exclusion by the administration or moderators.
Any insults directed at the moderators will not be tolerated. Moderators are volunteers and can do without abuse from users. The administrators and moderators on this forum will take immediate and appropriate action against any violation.
Please make sure you speak English on the forum and in the default in-game chat channels. Use of other languages can result in a temporary ban as we need to know that what is said respects the rules of the game.
If you wish to use content that is from another user e.g. images in a guide, you are required to give full credit to that player and link the thread it originated from. Failure to give proper credit may result in moderation of the thread/post. Additionally, it is considered good-manners to ask for permission to use another player's assets; if they request for their content to be removed, the post may be moderated.
Trolling / Flaming
Do not post in order to anger other members or intentionally cause negative reactions. For a given post, this can be a subjective call, but a pattern of such posting or an especially egregious case will get you banned. Do not troll, do not flame period, it is a bannable offence.
This also includes "Alt+F4" jokes, as that will close the current window of a player who applies the shortcut without knowing what it is for.
Spamming / Flooding / Scamming
The creation of spam and/or flooding posts is not permitted and can result in a 24-hour ban and even exclusion from the service (game/chat room/forum). Unwanted in-game messages with guild invites are also considered spam.
Frivolous, off-topic comments will be considered spam and removed.
Scamming is strictly against the rules and can result in a permanent game ban.
Use of capitals / Caps-lock
Excessive use of capitals/ constant use of caps-lock can result in a short to long term ban. Common expressions or abbreviations usually written in capital letters are of course allowed as long as the player does not abuse them.
Bad / Sick jokes in global channels
Players who say bad or "sick" jokes in the global channels can be banned for a short period of time. What you may see as a joke can hurt other people.
This can include jokes about racism, specific political subjects, illnesses, mature subjects etc.
No political / religious conversations / discussions / debates
Topics such as religion and politics are deemed too inflammatory/controversial and provocative. They have no place in VC9 Worlds and are forbidden. You will be warned to stop; if you persist, this could result in a ban.
