The story of the Sutton Family.
Welcome to the San Antonio African American Community Archive and Museum (SAAACAM). Our museum was founded in July of 2017. The museum's mission is to collect, preserve and share the cultural heritage of African Americans in the San Antonio area. The museum is housed in the Sutton Family Homestead, 430 N. Cherry Street. Built in the late 1800's by Samuel and Lillian Sutton. They had twelve children, and all those who lived to adulthood went to college. The couple also became serial entrepreneurs, eventually owning a skating rink, funeral home, mattress company, and farm.
