PONDERING WITH PAUL
09/08/08

I was just thinking

Paul Murano

Why aren’t the Olympics as exciting as they were when we were kids?

Remember how exciting the Democratic and Republican conventions were before they became scripted four-day infomercials?

What ever happened to Peking?  Bejing seemed to displace it out of nowhere.  Somewhere there must be a world of forgotten pronunciations where Peking, Shiite, and Uranus reign.

Isn’t it poetic justice that words like Uranus and harassment remain awkward regardless of which syllable they try to accent?

I guess Manny will have to be Manny on a coast that doesn’t seem to notice.

When quotas become the rule in the NBA will we finally achieve equality?

Would women even like men if they knew what they were involuntarily thinking 80% of the day?

Why is it that we don’t trust machines to count votes but we entrust our lives to them at 30,000 ft. above the earth?

Is no one bothered that Oprah had the power to choose who could be the next president?

Why is it considered rude to ask the two simple questions, Yes we can what? And Change what?

Have you noticed that those who preach tolerance are the most intolerant among us?

Why would John McCain condemn Russia’s invasion of Georgia by saying nations don’t occupy other nations in the 21st century – while American troops occupy Iraq?

Can anyone imagine Walter Cronkite or Frank Reynolds stating on TV that they felt a chill running up their leg at the sound of a candidate’s voice?

Cynics are certain that there can be certainty about anything.

Relativists claim it is wrong to say there is a right and wrong; and it is good to deny there is good and evil.

Since contemporary culture has rejected natural law it has become impossible to teach right and wrong.

Have you noticed that all those who are for abortion rights have already been born?

Isn’t it curious that the richer the individual or nation is the more they are apt to choose suicide?

Why is it that when 40 became the new 30 average family size went from five children to 1.7?

As western countries depopulate to the point of cultural suicide, is there any question that “the pill” is the new fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil (Gn 2:17)?

Why all of a sudden do preteens and older women need to be sexy?   Whatever happened to the iconic grey-haired plump grandmother that everyone loved for her matronliness and lack of ego?

Is it any coincidence that when women gave up their role of civilizing men society has become less civil?

When will western society wake up from its immature adolescence to realize once again that marriage untainted by premarital sex is the foundation of any healthy society?

Why is it that sitting in a classroom is valued more than playing in the woods?  And why do we allow homework to stifle a child’s natural creativity, wonder, and imagination?

When college became the new high school it got much more expensive.

Aren’t you getting a little tired of offended people?  Isn’t it high time that an organization called People Offended by Offended People, or POOP, becomes the next watch dog interest group?  Perhaps their slogan could be, Don’t whine or you’ll be pooped on!

Do rats ever give a human’s ass about anything?

Why is it that most people who are up in arms about Obama not protecting human beings born alive from failed abortions would remain silent if those same human beings were killed a little earlier by successful abortions?

When independence is valued more than interdependence the weak and vulnerable become victims.
Why isn’t it obvious anymore that the term same-sex marriage is an oxymoron like round square or married bachelor?

As pornography has displaced drugs as the addiction of our age, where is the government’s War on pornography?

And why is porn called “adult” when it is the ultimate in immaturity regarding human sexuality?

When people of faith and people of reason become the same people - the world will be transformed.

And as nations compete for prominence in the 21st century, which of the enemies of love – fear, anger, or apathy - will crumble first:  the fear of China, the anger of the Middle East, or the apathy of the West?
