Between my two boys and my sister’s two boys I was forever wiping my appliances with special wipes and sprays recommended to me (for additional charge) by the good folks at Home Depot. I decided to give up the expensive chemical cleaners and stainless steel polishers and I decided to go the GREEN & NATURAL way this time around. Put few drops of olive oil onto soft cotton cloth and in circular motions rub all over stainless steel appliances.
Then pour pure white vinegar onto another soft cotton cloth and polish with the grain until stainless steel appliances are shiny.
After all my stainless steel appliances were clean and shiny I took it one step further and I decided to give them additional sparkle with little bit of Mineral Oil on a soft cloth. If you like this article, please share it with others by using the little handy share buttons below.
Some of my friends were warning me to stay away from SS appliances, but I gave into the shine, lol. I am not having luck with any SS cleaning products, but this natural stuff seems to be working great. Thanks for tip#1 — I used to do just the olive oil part which ended up attracting a lot of dust. Do you use a dry microfiber cloth or do you dampen it with water first before you put the vinegar on? So you apply the vinegar and then dampen the cloth or do you apply the vinegar to a damp cloth? Actually vinegar works 2 ways in deodorizing the room too so the smell thing is actually a good thing.
I tried it as soon as I saw your pist, however the stubborn ones on the kitchen faucet didn’t come off.
You might have to let the vinegar sit on the surface for a little bit first – saturate a cloth or paper towel with the vinegar.
Vinegar does so much we should have a third faucet installed in our kitchens–for vinegar on tap!
Stainless steel adds an image of elegance and sophistication to any kitchen, and the beauty of that is how easy it is to keep clean. Use a stainless steel cleaner to remove stains if needed, but always read the directions and test a small spot on the appliance first.
Bleach will stain and damage stainless steel, do not use cleaning sprays or solutions that contain bleach.
Dirty water and cleaning solutions can leave a residue that can stain and damage the surface, so don’t forget to rinse and dry. The keys to helping your stainless steel appliances avoid stains and corrosion is proper care and maintenance.
Stainless steel appliances are a great investment, and it’s always disappointing to see people fail to properly clean and maintain them. Stainless steel cutlery is made from an iron alloy that contains at least 10 percent chromium. When applying cleaner you need to wipe your cloth in the direction of the grain of the stainless steel.  This is because dirt can get trapped in the grain of the stainless and it will be and appear much cleaner this way.

I think I have the Weiman in convenient wipe packs (kind of looks like your lysol wipes) and they work FANTASTIC on all my appliances!!!!!
I rarely find a specialty product that I promote, but the Weiman Stainless Steel cleaner is by far the best product I’ve used on stainless.
The best thing I have found to clean my stainless steel is Norwex microfiber polishing cloth. When we had our granite counter tops installed our installer told us to use denatured alcohol diluted with water. I have stainless appliances, all the same manufacturer, but purchased 2 years apart so they must have different types of stainless steel. I just wanted to pass along that WD-40 works great on my stainless steel fridge and dishwasher by GE.
White Vinegar – apply directly to cloth and wipe in the direction of the grain of the stainless steel and clean with microfiber cloth.
I too las hoping for all DIY but the fact that there’s at least one DIY one in there is awesome! We are trying to use only green products in our home, but sometimes it is hard to find good replacements. This was the first time for me as I am trying to go more green and I was impressed with the results.
And would much prefer to have less bottles and stuff collected because each item needs a different specialty cleaner! I put a bowl of vinegar in my son’s room because his clothes made the room smell like smoke. We just bought a house with stainless steal and my husband and I thought we were going to go crazy trying to keep them clean. I have used paper towels with the stainless steel cleaner I have but I’d love to change to vinigar if possible.
NO odor, softest clothes and my laundry smells fresh and clean when I take them out of the washer.
Here is what to do and what not to do when cleaning your stainless steel appliances so that they will keep their luster and shine for years to come.
They will scratch the surface of your stainless steel and make it more susceptible to rusting and staining. The alloy creates a stronger metal that doesn't bend or lose its shape as easily as softer metals. Wet a soft cloth with cider vinegar or undiluted white vinegar, and rub the cutlery with it to brighten up dull areas.
Stainless steel cutlery is stain-resistant and sometimes requires several wash cycles to become clean. Refrain from using alcohol or oven cleaners as cleaning agents for your stainless steel cutlery.
Silver plating causes different interactions with detergents and can cause permanent damage to the cutlery's finish. For instance, do not leave it on a hot stove burner or use it to stir a boiling pot of food.

It’s got silver right in the weave so is antibacterial, and all you need is a bit of water.
My stove and microwave clean up great, but my refrigerator is resistant to just about everything. I love the microfiber cloth as well, it’s the best texture when it comes to cleaning almost anything.
I put a bowl of vinegar in my son’s room because his clothes smelled like smoke all the time. I’m Meredith from unOriginal Mom, and I am SUPER excited to be a contributor for Uncommon Designs (still pinching myself a little bit)! Stainless steel cutlery is known for being stain resistant, but it can dull or show fingerprints.
However, if you use this method to clean your cutlery, remove the silverware and utensils from the dishwasher to dry it by hand. Her favorite article on wikiHow is How to Make an Origami Balloon, and she’s most proud of her work helping to save new articles from potential removal by expanding them to help them thrive. I have tried several different stainless steel cleaners but the only one that seems to work is the weiman.
Get between each tine on forks, clean out the bowls of the spoons and wipe knives to remove food particles. She says she’s stuck with wikiHow “Because the community is nice!” To new editors, she advises, click that button in the green menu that says “Help Us” and you can get started lending a hand! My blog is all about those inspired ideas – sharing where they came from, how I made it my own, and how it worked for me. A quick Google search led me to discover that this had indeed been done before with success, so I was excited to give it a try! The baby oil will shine the surface, but won’t really clean any significant grime off of it.
Look closely and you’ll see that there are lots of tiny little lines all going in the same direction – can you see that mine go side to side?
Wipe parallel to the the tiny lines and not perpendicular to them, otherwise you risk scratching the surface.) Then, using almost NO pressure at all, turn your cloth over to the dry side and softly buff the oil off. I ended up with a couple of streaks on my first pass, but I went over it again with some more oil and got that perfect sparkling shine I was looking for. Now, step back and admire the sparkle!
Ahhh, isn’t that nice? And the best part, I’ve found that this method actually does repel those little munchkin fingerprints! And it’s amazing how even despite the dirty dishes on the counter (just pretend you can’t see them in the reflection of the microwave) the whole kitchen looks so much cleaner!Do you have any tips for keeping your kitchen sparkling clean?
