Prison service order (PSO) 1600 describes when and how force should be used in lawful, necessary and proportionate ways by prison staff.

This prison service instruction (PSI) contains several amendments to PSO 1600. These cover:

  • personal safety techniques
  • use of batons
  • refresher training
  • debriefing
  • monitoring

This is a current PSI. It came into effect on 4 November 2015 and was last updated on 12 November 2015.
