Details
The British Sign Language (BSL) Advisory Board’s remit is to advise the government on:
- the use of BSL in public communications and policy delivery
- how to tackle key issues facing Deaf people, such as how to increase the numbers of BSL interpreters
Around 151,000 people in the UK use BSL. The BSL Act 2022 recognised it as a language of England, Wales and Scotland for the first time.
The board provides expert advice, informed by their own experiences, to the government on the implementation of the BSL Act.
