Ruth Bradley-Jones MBE

Biography
Ruth took up her position as the UK’s Deputy Head of Mission to Myanmar in March 2021. She was previously political officer in Myanmar from 2007 to 2011. Ruth’s diplomatic career has spanned over 15 years. Previous work has included a posting in Ethiopia from 2015 to 2016, as head of the migration team and UK Representative to Djibouti; head of the UK’s Iran nuclear negotiation team from 2013 to 2014; and as part of the UK’s EU Presidency from 2005 to 2006, leading on Africa and development.
She was most recently Deputy Head of the FCDO’s North East Asia and Pacific Department, leading work on the Korean Peninsula and Japan. Ruth is a keen champion for diversity, inclusion and gender equality. She was Chair of the FCDO’s women’s network from 2019 to 2021.
Deputy Head of Mission, British Embassy Yangon
The Deputy Head of Mission is a senior diplomat and typically an important advisor to the Head of Mission. The Deputy is responsible for the daily management of an overseas Embassy or High Commission. They will represent the UK’s interests in the absence of the Head of Mission.
