Lieutenant General Jim Hockenhull KBE

Biography
Lieutenant General Hockenhull has over 33 years of professional intelligence experience, over a decade of which has been spent on operations to Northern Ireland, Iraq and Afghanistan. He has held staff appointments in Army Headquarters, the Allied Rapid Reaction Corps and the Ministry of Defence working within Strategic Planning, Information Superiority, Cyber and Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance. In addition, he has instructed at the United States Command and General Staff College and been seconded to the Foreign Office.
Lieutenant General Hockenhull was appointed Chief of Defence Intelligence in December 2018. He is the primary intelligence advisor to the Defence Board and is the Defence lead for Defence Intelligence strategy, implementation and transformation projects.
Lieutenant General Hockenhull is a member of the Strategic Command Executive Committee and the Deputy Chair of the Joint Intelligence Committee.
Chief of Defence Intelligence
The Chief of Defence Intelligence responsibilities include:
- ensure the provision of timely and relevant intelligence assessment in support of Defence policy, operations and capabilities
- lead Defence Intelligence’s capabilities
- modernise Defence Intelligence so that the Ministry of Defence capitalises on advances in technology and innovation techniques
- maintain relationships with national and international partners, ensuring intelligence collaboration across the enterprise.
- develop the intelligence profession and ensure access to the right skills, capabilities and training across the organisation.
