Emran Mian

Biography

Emran Mian is Director General, Decentralisation and Growth at the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities.

Emran was previously, from September 2019 to September 2021, Director General, Decentralisation and Growth at the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government.

Prior to this he was the interim Director General for Strategy and International and the acting Director General for Higher Education and Further Education at the Department for Education (DfE).

Since returning to the Civil Service in February 2017, Emran has been Director of Strategy and Social Mobility. Previously he ran the Social Market Foundation, a cross-party think tank.

Earlier in his career he held senior positions in both the Cabinet Office and Business Department

Director General, Decentralisation and Growth

The DLUHC board’s role is to advise and support ministers on the operational implications and effectiveness of policy proposals and help turn policy from ideas into actions and results.

Part of DLUHC’s leadership team and an executive member of its board, the Director General, Decentralisation and Growth helps with that task.
