Details

EU sanctions will continue to apply in the UK until 11pm on 31 December 2020. The UK has also established a new global human rights sanctions regime under the Sanctions and Anti-Money Laundering Act 2018 (Sanctions Act).

The UK sanctions list

The UK government publishes the UK sanctions list, which provides details of those designated under regulations made under the Sanctions Act.

The UK currently only implements a global human rights sanctions regime through regulations under the Sanctions Act.

As set out in the Withdrawal Agreement, EU sanctions will continue to apply in the UK during the transition period until 11pm on 31 December 2020. UN sanctions will continue to be implemented through EU law during this time. Those designated through EU or UN sanctions and not UK sanctions will not appear on the UK sanctions list.

HM Treasury’s Office for Financial Sanctions Implementation provides a consolidated list of persons and organisations under financial sanctions, including those under the global human rights sanctions regime, EU legislation and other UK legislation.

Publicising sanctions decisions

When the UK government makes a decision to create, change or remove a sanctions designation, it will update the UK sanctions list.

Where the UK government holds the contact details for those designated under the Sanctions Act, it will seek to inform them directly of their designation.
