Louise Ellis

Biography

Louise Ellis has been the British Deputy High Commissioner to Uganda since September 2020. Prior to this appointment, she was Head of the Commonwealth Unit in London and was part of the Commonwealth Summit Unit in the Cabinet Office which organised CHOGM 2018. Louise joined the FCDO in 2003. She has previously served overseas in the British Embassy in Tunisia. In London, Louise has served as the Assistant Private Secretary to the Minister for Africa, the Caribbean, Overseas Territories and the UN. She has also worked in the Overseas Territories Directorate and Africa Directorate.

Deputy High Commissioner to Uganda

The Deputy High Commissioner is a senior diplomat and typically an important advisor to the Ambassador or High Commissioner. The Deputy is responsible for the daily management of an overseas Embassy or High Commission. They will represent the UK’s interests in the absence of the Ambassador as Chargé d’Affaires. A senior ranking Deputy may also take the title Minister. Smaller missions may not have a Deputy Head.
