Theatre On
Consignment will begin its 2005-2006 regular season with “The House
of Yes”, the acclaimed comedy by Wendy MacLeod. The play will run
November 10, 11, 12, 18, and 19 at 8pm and November 20 at 2pm.
In the play, it's Thanksgiving and Marty's arrival home is greatly anticipated
by his mother, Mrs. Pascal (Renee Purtee), his twin sister, Jackie-O (Meridith
Jones), and his younger brother, Anthony (Lonny Quattlebaum). Marty (Brad
Purkey) arrives during a hurricane, but worse than the storm is the fact
that Marty brings Lesly (Anissa Brazill), his new fiancée. On top
of that, Jackie-O has just recently been released from a mental hospital,
Anthony dropped out of Princeton, and their alcoholic mother has a serious
problem handling any of their problems. This darkly funny black comedy
is an uproariously witty and slightly disturbing commentary on American
iconography, celebrity worship, and the family dynamic.
Amber Malott directs, with set design by Mike Jacobs, lighting design
by Ben C. Roose, sound design by Jason Bailey, costume design by Brenda
Welch, and props by Rebekah Rine.
Performances are at Theatre On Consignment’s new venue, Club Tabu,
located at 305 S. St. Francis. Ticket prices are $10 for general public
and $7 for seniors, students, and military. For reservations, call (316)
522-4442. The play contains some adult language and themes and is intended
for mature audiences.
