THEATRE ON CONSIGNMENT HOMEPAGE

OUT IN THE OPEN

Theatre On Consignment will end its 2007-2008 regular season with Out in the Open, the realistic, in- your-face drama by British playwright Jonathan Harvey (Beautiful Thing) . The show will run May 22, 23, & 24 and 29, 30, & 31 at 8pm.

Out in the Open is a tender, often moving and caustically witty play about two lovers who are left after the accidental death of their shared partner, each not being "meant" to know about the other. There is the widower who is ready to move on, but whose mother-in-law expects the grief of bereavement to go on forever. It is also about the isolation of the extra-marital "mistress" figure, uninvited to the funeral and unable to contact anyone who knew their lover. “Family”, along with the close friends of the widower, explore the topics of grief, secrets, and the limits of friendship.

The play stars Michael Webber, David DeRock, Juan Leslie, Michael Gordon, Elizabeth Anderson, and Susan Guntley. Dr. Leroy Clark is director. Kathleen O'Keefe is stage manager, with Amber Malott assisting. Poster design and publicity is by David Bailey. Props design is by Rebekah Rine, with sound design by Mallory Rine and lighting design by Cherice Henderson and Meridith Jones. Henderson and Jones are also co-producers.

Out in the Open is for mature audiences only, with strong language and adult themes.

Performances are at First Metropolitan Community Church, 156 S. Kansas St. Tickets are $10 for general public and $8 for seniors, students, and military. For reservations, call (316) 613-3385.
