"Other People's Money" opened in February 1989 at the Minetta Lane Theater in New York. During its successful New York run, it won the Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Off-Broadway Play of 1989. This triumph was followed by a national tour, separate Chicago and London productions and a 1991 movie version, starring Danny DeVito and Gregory Peck and directed by Norman Jewison. It has been performed in virtually every major regional theatre in the country, in London and throughout Western Europe and much of Asia. Author Jerry Sterner was a successful New York real estate agent before retiring from the business world to pursue his love of playwriting. His knowledge of the dealings of big business lends an unmistakable authenticity to the story of Lawrence Garfinkle (Mac Welch)--aka "Larry The Liquidator". Garfinkle is a ruthless, straight-shooting, Bronx-born corporate raider who finally meets his match in the form of Kate Sullivan (Amber Malott).
Kate has interests of her own, as well. What could look better for the young up-and-comer than a delicious victory over one of Wall Street's most vicious sharks? For Garfinkle, however, this is one takeover that's not just about other people's money--it's about Kate. From the moment she walks into his office, he knows he is in love. He also knows he wants to win.
Theatre On Consignments production of Other People's Money ran December 12, 13, and 14 at Linesight Theatre, located at 143 N. Rock Island on the third floor. Nathan Boren directed. Matt Englund was scenic designer and Jason Bailey was sound designer, with Scott Hay stage managing. See production stills from Other People's Money. 'Other Peoples Money' has a heart of iron which
beats about the cannibalistic nature of big business.
