“Funny, serious, suspenseful, involving, disturbing, and above all, expertly crafted… Epic grandeur and intimate titillation combined. It is the most stimulating kind of entertainment.”
–John Simon, New York Magazine

"Other People's Money" opened in February 1989 at the Minetta Lane Theater in New York. During its successful New York run, it won the Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Off-Broadway Play of 1989. This triumph was followed by a national tour, separate Chicago and London productions and a 1991 movie version, starring Danny DeVito and Gregory Peck and directed by Norman Jewison. It has been performed in virtually every major regional theatre in the country, in London and throughout Western Europe and much of Asia.

Author Jerry Sterner was a successful New York real estate agent before retiring from the business world to pursue his love of playwriting. His knowledge of the dealings of big business lends an unmistakable authenticity to the story of Lawrence Garfinkle (Mac Welch)--aka "Larry The Liquidator". Garfinkle is a ruthless, straight-shooting, Bronx-born corporate raider who finally meets his match in the form of Kate Sullivan (Amber Malott).

Kate is the attorney who stands between him and New England Wire & Cable, a second-generation family firm that has fallen on hard times but has no debt and a lot of cash. Larry wants to raid the company, break it up, strip the assets, and sell the profitable divisions. The company's president, an old-fashioned stalwart named Andrew "Jorgy" Jorgenson (Jason Bond) wants to continue making wire and cable. His secretary and companion (and Kate's mother), Bea Sullivan (Danzel Muzingo Bond), wants to keep Jorgy happy. His company president, William Coles (Jason Miller), has plans of his own.

Kate has interests of her own, as well. What could look better for the young up-and-comer than a delicious victory over one of Wall Street's most vicious sharks? For Garfinkle, however, this is one takeover that's not just about other people's money--it's about Kate. From the moment she walks into his office, he knows he is in love. He also knows he wants to win.

Both Kate and her smitten adversary are first-class manipulators—but how far will they go to close the deal?

Theatre On Consignment’s production of “Other People's Money” ran December 12, 13, and 14 at Linesight Theatre, located at 143 N. Rock Island on the third floor.

Nathan Boren directed. Matt Englund was scenic designer and Jason Bailey was sound designer, with Scott Hay stage managing.
