Makes you smile even more

Today, my whole attention is on teeth whitening and activated charcoal teeth whitening. Do white-white teeth sound good today? Do you complete every look? Can you still venture out of the house today without shining biter? My first and very spontaneous answer would be:

"Yes, of course, you can!".

I would stand with my hands on my hips and shake my head. "Where would we be in our time and with our self-optimizing delusion, if one can not even leave his teeth as they have grown?" Well looked after and taken care of Dentist's hand understands itself. I do not want to call anyone to tails on his dental appointments.

And yet now and then I reach for these teeth whiteners. Not to the home bleaching, but to such things as the whitening of toothpaste praised by dentists. After a maximum of one week, this paste flies into the trash every time, and I moan because my teeth have become so sensitive that I (assuming I am an upper hypochondriac) would severely suffer from scurvy. And until the next attempt I said to myself:

"Fuck the Hollywood smile!"

Nevertheless, I envied all those who shone with a white string of pearls in the teeth. It just always looks so beautiful. Much better than my slightly ivory-colored teeth, which in a year meanwhile tartar, because I drink too much tea.

And because enlightenment is everything, I called a dear old friend Jay. After all, after wild concerts and beach parties of our youth, he put on his pants and is now quite successfully leading several dental practices. In addition to many normal patients also supermodels entrust their teeth to him. The excellent reason to talk about teeth whitening with him - If he does not know who then?

Is dental bleaching unhealthy?
Jan: With proper use, there are no more problems for the tooth nowadays, provided you do not become bleaching addicted. The enamel becomes slightly less resistant to abrasion when bleached. However, this effect disappears after a few days, and the tooth is then as stable again as before the treatment.

How do you bleach today?
Jan: Today we distinguish two types of whitening. The so-called home bleaching with splint and bleaching gel for home care and in-office or power bleaching, which is always done in the dental practice under dental supervision. Besides these, there are other bleaching methods, for example, the internal lightening of a discolored, root-treated tooth is referred to as walking bleaching. The safest thing is always a whitening in the dental office. The professional staff can dose the intensity of the materials used under the control and protection of the gums higher and thus achieve better results.

Can anyone come for dental bleaching or are there restrictions?
Jay: Basically yes. However, you should wait until maturation of the enamel (at about 16 years). We recommend a minimum age of 18 years. With carious teeth or defective fillings, periodontal diseases (gum disease), during pregnancy or lactation, as well as with sensitive teeth, I advise against tooth whitening. Likewise, you should be cautious with exposed tooth necks. Fillings or dentures in the visible area do not change their color by applying peroxide onto them - and you have to renew the fillings afterward - these cost you have to check first.

How does bleaching work?
Whiten teeth okay, but what exactly happens during treatment? Jay: During the treatment, unwanted color pigments are lightened with substances containing carbamide or hydrogen peroxide, similar to hairdressing. Oxygen penetrates into the enamel surface and "decolorizes" color pigments.

Any side effects?
Jay: When used correctly, there is only a temporary tooth hypersensitivity that can be treated relatively well with fluoridation. Sometimes it can irritate the gums. If someone bleeds despite tooth decay, the tooth nerve can be permanently damaged, because the gel used penetrates deeply into the tooth substance via the defect.

How bright can you get teeth with a whitening?
Jay: Depending on the initial situation, the method of bleaching and the age of the patient, treatment usually provides 2-3 levels of tooth brightness.

How does treatment work?
Jay: A Power bleaching in the dental practice begins with professional teeth cleaning. The gums and exposed tooth necks are covered with a so-called liquid rubber dam so that they do not damage. Subsequently, the dental hygienist applies the bleaching gel to the tooth enamel. It is activated with a unique LED lamp and lasts 15 minutes. Depending on the desired brightness, you can run up to three cycles in one appointment. At the end of the treatment, we fluoridate the teeth and prescribe a whitening diet for the first 24 hours after treatment (acid-free foods and drinks without any colorings). A special toothpaste further improves the result.

Honestly, does whitening up my teeth hurt ??
Jay: Honestly? Yes, sometimes it is uncomfortable. If it becomes unbearable, you can stop the treatment at any time.

Do you have to prepare somehow for dental bleaching?
Jay: (laughs) Oh well. Sing in for 2 hours and be perfectly styled when you come to our doctor´s office. Seriously, on the day of treatment, you should avoid acidic foods such as Coffee, lemons or similar to eat.

What costs do you have to expect?
Jay: Depending on the region, treatment procedure, and scope, a professional in-office bleaching in a dental practice costs about $ 300 to $ 500.

How long does a tooth bleaching last and how often do you have to repeat it?
Jay: It always depends on the method of bleaching, lifestyle (smoking, coffee, tea, red wine, etc.) and the age of the person. Usually, bleaching should last 1-3 years.

Now we are all a bit smarter again. I think, I first make an appointment for prevention and cleaning. That is due to a long time yet. How are you? Have you brightened up your teeth in a professional way? You think about doing it? Or is it all the same to you?
