| Undergraduate Student News | | | Maya Ostoin is a WiSE summer research scholar. Xinxuan Wang won the 2019 Archimedes Prize. Jinyang Zhou won the 2019 Euclid Prize. Xuerui Yang gave a presentation at the 2019 ACC Meeting of the Minds conference. | | | Mathematics Department awarded two Undergraduate Research Stipends in the year 2019. The winners were Xinxuan Wang and Jinyang Zhou. The students supported by these awards will engage in mathematical research under the direction of a faculty mentor. | | | Yantao Wu, Xuerui Yang, and Jinyang Zhou represented Syracuse University in the Putnam Mathematical Competition on December 1, 2018. | | | The Syracuse University chapter of the national mathematics honorary society Pi Mu Epsilon (New York Alpha chapter) welcomed three new members in Spring 2019. |

| Graduate Student News | | | Erin Tripp received the 2019 Donald E. Kibbey Prize in Mathematics, defended her Ph.D. dissertation “Structured Sparsity Promoting Functions: Theory and Applications”, and will join the Air Force Research Laboratory after graduation. | | | The second semester of the graduate-ran Directed Reading Program gave several undergraduates an opportunity to study such diverse topics as machine learning, elliptic-curve cryptography, and game theory. |
