Built in 1846 and turned into a backpackers hostel in 1997, we have packed this grand old building full of art, character and antiquity. Our receptionists will always give you a friendly welcome and can help with any questions about what to see in Edinburgh or about travel around Scotland.
We also have two other hostels in the Old Town of Edinburgh; the small & vibrant Royal Mile Backpackers and the historic High Street Hostel, Edinburgh’s original independent hostel!
Be aware that if you book for a group your reservation will be cancelled and you will lose the 10% deposit. If guests are under the age of 18 you must contact the hostel first for the manager’s approval.

Translated from its Gaelic tongue to mean ‘small bay’, Oban is an idyllic horseshoe bay sheltered from the Atlantic by the isle of Kerrera. The Original Oban Backpackers is perfectly located to enable you to make the most of your time in Oban.
Our spacious, bright dorm rooms have all been recently refurbished and offer wide comfy beds that come complete with fitted sheets, duvets and 2 comfy pillows.
We have a fully equipped self-catering kitchen that has everything you will need to cook your favourite meal and plenty of storage space and fridges available for you to use. We serve an optional breakfast of cereal, toast, fruit juice and a freshly baked Scottish scone.
Our funky living room boasts plenty of comfy sofas, a pool table, a fabulous real coal fire, loads of useful local information, games, free WiFi, an Internet Cafe Style computer and as much free tea, coffee & hot chocolate as you can drink!
Our staff are a friendly bunch who know the local area like the backs of their hands so don’t hesitate to pick their brains when you are planning your day out exploring.
In the evenings, if you want to enjoy Oban’s night-life our friendly staff can point you in the right direction or you can just stay in and relax in our large lounge with its real fire, and pool table and make some new friends over a beer or 2. The port of Oban is also a transport hub for boat trips to the many beautiful Scottish Isles should you wish to explore the more remote areas of Scotland.
We are only a few paces from Princess Street, and walking distance from both Waverley train station and St Andrews Square bus station. Located a few minutes walk from Waverley Train station, St Andrew Square bus station Edinburgh Airports Airlink shuttle bus and the new Edinburgh Tram Terminus. Fitted out with the traveller in mind we have universal plug sockets and a personal reading lamp in every room. We specialise in catering for all groups from schools, colleges, universities,  sports teams to family celebrations, stag and hen parties happilly accepted. We received The Certificate of Excellence 2013 and 2014 from Trip Advisor and have been recently upgraded to a 4 star hostel by Visit Scotland. Our palatial hostel offers wonderful character, with a mix of grandeur and a backpacker vibe!

We are just a stroll from the bus, train and the airport bus and a 1 minute walk from Edinburgh Castle, 1 minute from the Royal Mile & 1 minute from the Grassmarket. Our fabulous hostel has been completely refurbished in May 2013 and is the perfect base for backpackers travelling on a budget. Also known as the ‘Gateway to the Isles’, this is the largest port in North West Scotland and boasts spectacular views across to the Hebridean islands.  In particular, the view at dusk from McCaig’s Tower provides a sunset you are unlikely to forget.
Just a 10 minute stroll from the bus, train and ferry terminals, our friendly hostel has everything you will need after a great day out exploring. Our powerful hot showers are available 24 hours and are guaranteed to leaving you feeling refreshed and ready for your next adventure. Ancient standing stones are to be found all over the Oban area, as well as more recent structures such as medieval castles and whisky distilleries.
We provide a warm and friendly service, luxury bedding, complimentary breakfast, full self catering facilities, laundry services and everything else you need to make your stay in Scotland s capital amazing!!! All bookings cancelled after 48 hours prior to scheduled arrival or no shows will be charged in full. We have solid pine beds, hotel standard larger mattresses and high quality free linen. We are in a relatively quiet street but the city’s wonderful, late night-life is also just around the corner – ideal! Like any small port, there is a lot going on in Oban; the bustle of fishing boats, ferries, yachts and sea birds make the waterfront a lovely place to be.
