The Ford Edge has always been a great combination of unique flair in a very practical package. The new 2015 Edge combines the style of an “urban assault vehicle” and the driving experience of the Fusion, but don’t for a second think this is a Fusion wagon, it’s an entirely new breed of vehicle. Moving on to other cool features, wave your foot under the rear bumper and the power lift gate opens, it has remote start, push button start, keyless entry, heated and cooled front seats, and heated rear seat.  Two buttons in the rear cargo area put the second row seats down, voice activated navigation system, rain sensitive windshield wipers, panoramic sunroof, 20” aluminum wheels, and a heated steering wheel. Notable standard features include the hands-free lift gate, a rear spoiler, front and rear LED lights, HID headlights, hill start assist, capless fuel filler, reverse sensing system, Sony stereo, universal garage door opener, leather seating, ambient lighting, dual exhaust with chrome tips, paddle shifters, and the Sync system-which incidentally worked flawlessly.  You also get a host of safety and security features.
The Ford Edge isn’t the first vehicle that you would think should pop up on BangShift’s radar. The Edge is two things for Ford: It’s a big seller (over ten thousand a month) and it’s a leader in it’s market, easily outclassing it’s nearest rivals, the Kia Sedona and the Hyundai Santa Fe. The Titanium  (pictured) that we drove was packing an all-new 2.0L EcoBoost turbo four-cylinder engine. Now, the best way to gauge interior room is to shove my 6’3, 300-pound frame into the seat. Oh, yeah…the rear seats are heated and recline and the steering wheel warms up as well.
I am glad to hear they stepped it up on the interior, that is the biggest complaint on ours. Why can’t Ford understand that other manufactures, especially European brands offer more color choices not just black!!

Offering a nice combination of sport and utility, the 2016 Ford Edge can be had in a variety of different trim levels. Stepping up to the Titanium package gets you a choice of nicely designed 19- or 20-inch wheels, but it’s the Edge Sport that really sets itself apart from a visual perspective. Regardless of which 2016 Ford Edge you choose, you’ll be glad to know that every trim level offers up vast amounts of comfort, room and conveniences.
The big news, however, is the addition of Ford’s SYNC 3 system with a new 8-inch touchscreen. Once on the road, drivers will notice great road manners combined with a ride quality that lends itself towards the softer side. Ranging in price from $28,700 for the SE model to just over $40k for the Edge Sport, Ford has positioned the 2016 Ford Edge to be accessible to a wide range of consumers. For the first time, the Edge gets enhanced active park assist, side parking sensors, and a front camera with washer.
The second generation of this mid-size crossover comes with several changes when it is about engines.
While many crossovers are growing constantly and missing the point, the 2015 Edge has kept its, well for lack of a better word, edge over the competition.  You see, this cool urban utility vehicle has stuck to its same formula of having small car-like driving characteristics with a large and practical passenger and cargo area. That formula we spoke of is still there, the innovative tech we’ve come to expect from Ford is there in full force, and the styling is timeless.
The seating position is high up like a crossover, but the steering feel is that of a midsize sedan.

The Chevrolet Equinox is more cute-ute than anything, and the Jeep Grand Cherokee, the Edge’s physically closest competition, has more off-road leanings than the Ford does.
The taillights are an adaptation of the current Focus, and had other testers drawing comparisons to Lexus…not a bad place to be.
It’s smooth, with plenty of low end, but above about 3,000RPM this thing comes alive. With the seats up the Edge will handle most any task you may have, but with the seats down (which can be done simply by toggling a switch…nice touch, Ford!) you can really open up the back. My size 15 boots tucked up underneath the front seats without hitting anything, and I’m still quite comfortable.
The power is seamless at low speeds, but shift the transmission from Drive to Sport, take control of the paddles and the sociopathic fiend comes out of the Edge. In a couple of sections of winding mountain roads, I pushed the Edge hard and it begged for more. What I have never been able to understand is why the blue oval cannot offer better interior colors.
The few Blue, red, grey colored interior ford products I have owned were more enjoyable to be in. With three engine choices, four trim levels, Ford’s new SYNC 3 system and the availability of either front-wheel drive or Intelligent AWD, this new Edge may be the answer to your crossover needs.
With six different non-metallic paint choices, standard 18-inch 5-spoke painted aluminum wheels, dual exhaust and some blacked-out trim, the base model SE is quite attractive in its own right. Unique body-colored front and rear fascias, body-colored door handles, a piano black grille with magnetic accents, trapezoidal exhaust tips, blacked out beltline moldings and either 20- or 21-inch wheels transform the Edge from a nicely designed crossover into something that looks quite fun to drive. From a comfort perspective the Edge does not disappoint, regardless if you opt for the SE or go all-out for the Sport. A vast improvement over the previous generation system, SYNC 3 is the gateway into your vehicles interior functions. Although small, this little turbocharged mill pumps out 245 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque, which was good enough to get our front-wheel drive Edge to 60mph in 7.4 seconds. Emergency braking tests proved very good with the Edge delivering repeated firm, straight-line stops with zero drama. Items like roll stability control, dual stage front airbags, side-impact airbags, a second row safety canopy with rollover sensor, knee airbags for the driver and passenger, rear inflatable safety belts and an SOS Post-Crash Alert System are integrated to make sure both driver and passengers arrive to their destination safe and sound.

With modern styling, multiple engine choices and a variety of trim levels, the 2016 Ford Edge may be just what todays crossover buyer is looking for.
Your mileage will vary depending specific vehicle trim, how you drive and maintain your vehicle, driving conditions, and other factors.
And that translates into more headroom, extra legroom for second-row passengers, and additional cargo space. On the slalom, ita€™s well-balanced and secure and along the twists and turns it feels solid and firmly planted on the road. After the slalom, several activities are set up to try the new available driver-assistance technologies.
New perpendicular and park assist works excellent and driver only takes control of the brakes.
The base model now comes with all new 2.0 liter EcoBoost engine, which has an output of 245 hp and 275 lb-ft of max torque. Once you see the side profile, the car can instantly be recognized as part of the Edge lineage.
Opening the door, the bright cabin greets you thanks to the large windows and panoramic sunroof. And Ford made a note that I found quite surprising: technology is a deal make-or-break currently. Comparing a new Edge to an old one can’t be done…the new generation is, visually and dynamically, leaps and bounds above the old one. The overall look has managed to get away from the river-rock shape and won’t be anywhere near as anonymous as the outgoing model.
The black lower trim does a nice job of masking the fact that the Edge is still a pretty sizable vehicle.
Hooked to the six-speed SelecShift manu-matic, it did everything we asked of it: it cruised nicely, and only needed a downshift to fifth on the largest of the grades we drove. It’s a RPM-happy mill that is more than capable of pushing the 3,900 pound Titanium around. Visually, there’s a slightly different air dam on the front, integrated exhaust ports instead of twin pipes out back, and the grille is blacked-out instead of bright. Both Edges we drove had the power lift gate…you know, the one that you open by making a kicking motion near the rear bumper.
Unless you’re the second coming of Andre the Giant, you and your family will fit just fine with plenty of room to spare.
The price is the only sticking point: our AWD Sport stickered at $45,785, from a starting base price of $40,095. We'll give you credit for the submission (of course) and what is cooler than showing all your gang that you have a story on Bang Shift?
The SEL receives ten paint choices, liberal amounts of chrome around the windows and lower fascia, painted front and rear lower valances and an optional panoramic Vista roof. While a choice of Dune or Ebony cloth seats are available in the SE and SEL (leather is optional on the SEL), the Titanium and Sport benefit from nicely bolstered perforated leather sport seats with the Sport receiving suede inserts and 10-way heat and cooling settings with memory.
And just in case you’re wondering, all the interior materials are of nice quality and the fit and finish throughout the cabin is excellent. With improved touchscreen responsiveness, cleaner graphics, better voice recognition software and a much-improved ease-of-use factor, Ford’s new system really hits the mark. As with most crossovers, push the Edge hard and you’re met with a bit of front-wheel drive understeer, however under normal driving conditions the Edge is a joy to drive. Simply, kick under the rear bumper and it unlocks and raises the liftgate nice and high, out of head-banging range. A car-based design over a traditional truck-based SUV underpinning also makes it easy to drive and park a€“ even in crowded areas. While parallel parking features are nothing new, the Edge takes it a step further with an innovative system that also lets you perpendicular park your car.
Prices start at $31,999 for the base SE FWD model and top out at $45,199 for the Sport AWD trim. It come slightly bigger than its predecessor and it features completely new look, which is completely adapted to company’s new design language, so you can see many styling cues borrowed from models such as new Explorer or Taurus. It also features 180 degree system, which is consisted of three cameras – one on the front bumper and two on the sides, and this system works very well too. Tall greenhouse, urban style, little details like LED accents, sleekly designed halogen headlamps, and a unique styling of Ford’s new corporate grille are some unmistakable characteristics of the new Edge.
This SEL came with the Technology Package, Utility Package, 3.5L V6 (that delivers a combined rating of 20 MPG) and a Panoramic Vista Roof. The seats have a familiar pattern of the Fusion and are just as comfy and supportive, they’re ideal road trip seats. But the Edge received a complete reworking for 2015, part of Ford’s big push for new models. Even though everything under the body is all new, Ford didn’t go ballistic with the Edge’s outward styling, choosing to play a safer route while increasing the “aggressive factor”. The reason you see all of these trick gadgets in cars is because the customers demand them, and if the manufacturer doesn’t have them, then customers are willing to drop the deal and walk away from the company.
The fit and finish is spot on, and the interiors are a vast improvement upon Fords of even recent past. Lighting is excellent, and you can see the 180-degree camera just underneath the Ford badge. Otherwise, from the outside, there isn’t a real easy way to tell that this is the model that can embarrass a surprising amount of stoplight jockeys. The paddle shifters are useable, the main shifter is direct, and all controls are easy to reach and adapt. This might be the first vehicle outside of a medium-duty truck I’ve been in that can make that claim. Whatever model of Edge you choose, you will not be hurting for space, amenities, or capability. The Pirellis would bite in a corner and not let go, the brakes were a dream, and the suspension (MacPherson struts front, independent multi-link rear with stabilizers at both ends) ate it all up.
The starting price of the Titanium, which was FWD, is $35,600, but our tester stickered at $43,285.
Part of the problem is you get weenie car shoppers who like the rest of the car but turn it down because they don’t like the interior color. Wheel size remains at 18-inches, however there is now a choice of either a painted split-spoke painted or polished split-spoke aluminum five spoke wheel.
Aside from navigation, audio, climate and phone functions, there are now integrated apps such as iHeartRadio, Pandora and Spotify.

It’s quiet, roomy and confidence inspiring which is something most parents will appreciate, if they’re considering the Edge as a family hauler. The Edge will be sold in more than 100 countries in markets in Europe, South America, and Asia. Although 2015 Ford Edge comes with amazing exterior, we found that the cabin of new model even more interesting.
There are also some other notable hi-tech safety features such as Adaptive Cruise Control and Collision Warning Lane Departure Warning and Lane Keeping Assist.
The third and definitely the most attractive option is powered by 2.7 liter EcoBoost V6, which has output of 315 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque. It looks fantastic and leaner than older models, but is it still as easy to drive as the older ones? The Technology Package ads some really cool safety features such as BLIS (Blind Spot Information System) with Cross Traffic Alert, Remote Start, Auto Dimming Drivers side Mirror, and a Voice Activated Navigation with SiriusXM Traffic and TravelLink. New buttons help to aid the MyFord Touch system, and everything is placed in a clear and systematic manner. At speed, the Edge really feels composed, and even while going over bumps its feels smooth. We’ve reported on the exciting vehicles in the press, including the upcoming Focus RS and the Mustang EcoBoost, but what would the Edge bring to BangShift’s table to make us perk up and take note? These are larger than the outgoing model by small margins, but physically it’s very close to the Jeep Grand Cherokee in size. The power figures of the Edge Sport exceed a used Mustang GT, a very nice consequence of the horsepower war. Without instruction or manual, I could easily figure out how to make the majority of things work, like cruise control, phone sync, the voice-activated nav system, and the HVAC. Where the old SYNC system had a tendency to hesitate, the new system is ultra responsive especially when it comes to linking music and utilizing your phones functions. Mileage for the 2.0L is rated at 30 mpg highway and 20 city, numbers that we found to be quite accurate. There are also features like heated rear seats, heated steering wheel, two 2-amp USB chargers etc. The Blind Spot Information System comes in handy for when other cars appear (or don’t) on your side so you can stay focused on the road ahead, while still being aware of your surroundings. But does the Edge Sport have enough going for it that a BangShifter would want it as a daily driver, or would they be better off hunting Craigslist for a deal to satisfy that performance itch? Since these are pre-production units, we can only say that from our fuel use, the numbers are close to what we saw. If the Edge, a simple crossover, is any indication, the upcoming Focus RS is going to be an absolute riot. There is also a slot for an SD card along with multiple USB and charging ports for when your mobile devices need a bit of extra juice.
As we already said, 2015 Ford Edge comes slightly bigger and this has nice impact when it is about interior space. All engines are paired with 6-speed automatic transmission and available in FWD and AWD configurations.
The Utility pack has some convenience goodies like a Hands Free Liftgate, Perimeter Alarm, and a Universal Garage Door opener.
The backup camera works like a charm, and even shows little lines to help you steer into a spot with ease. We were on a plane in short order…over 300hp and you’re treading into ten-year-old Mustang GT territory with a crossover. The “electric razor” grill of the previous Edge gives way to a more Taurus-inspired design, and the headlights echo Fusion and Mustang’s design language. Improvements in space are especially notable behind the second row, which comes with 7 inches of additional space.
The SEL trim that came with this vehicle was the 201A pack, so SYNC with MyFord Touch, Heated Leather, 6-way power passenger seat, and a Premium 9-speaker audio system are all standard fare.
But the most surprising part of the new Edge is the sport mode that engages the transmission.
We had to find out: could the new Ford Edge be the kind performance sleeper that could do it all?
It can also un-park itself, keep you from overcooking a corner, and can charge your devices through USB twice as fast as before.
The system controls the steering, while the driver controls the brake and accelerator pedals.
This activates a quicker throttle response and allows the driver to use the paddle shifters located behind the wheel.
Could a crossover not only haul a few asses and some cargo around in comfort, but haul ass, period? The side profile is safe, but the body is broken up some to be more visually interesting and the back end looks inspired instead of the previous Edge’s anonymous look. If you forget to release the E-brake (a button), the Edge checks to see if you are buckled in. It takes a bit of patience and time - often two or three tries to reverse into a spot a€“ but it works like a charm. We had to get our hands one one and test out our theory, so we headed to Phoenix, Arizona to see what Ford’s new SUV was all about. Out back, more Fusion cues appear in the form of a LED taillights with a red racetrack LED ring and dual exhaust on all models.
Other cool available features include adaptive cruise control and collision warning with brake support, a blind spot information system, heated and cooled front seats, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, and inflatable rear safety belts. If you try to drive off without the keyfob, the horn honks and the dash lights up to remind you that you’re forgetting something. It also has active aerodynamics for fuel economy gains, a knee-airbag for the front passenger (something that actually makes sense), adaptive cruise, lane departure warning with intervention (that kind of works…our test turned into Pong on the road, bouncing from one end of the lane to the other), collision warning with brake intervention, and yes, they even put that device that opens and closes the tailgate with a swift kicking motion.
You are still involved in 90% of the action, it’s just that the steering wheel and the sensors take over for positioning the vehicle. And they do a good job…the tolerances for space were considerably tighter than what we were comfortable with ourselves.
