So I’ve gotten more proactive about tracking my sleeping patterns and have started using the phone app, Sleep Cycle, over the last week.
I’m still determining if sleeping so close to my charging phone is more detrimental to my health in the long run. When you wake up to Sleep Cycle’s soothing melodic alarm, you can check the status of your sleep quality in a simple graph chart. One thing’s for sure, Sleep Cycle’s dreamy otherworldly rolling ring tone is a more enchanted way to wake up then to my previous heckling alarm buzzer!

The purpose for the Sleep Cycle app is not to just to give you a report but to help you to wake up feeling better and fresher throughout the day. You see, during the night you go from light sleep to deep sleep and occasionally enter a dream state called REM-sleep, all showing up as different spikes in your graph. The Sleep Cycle alarm clock uses the accelerometer in your iPhone to monitor your movement and determine which sleep phase you are in.
Sleep Cycle then uses a 30 minute alarm window that ends at your set alarm time and wakes you in your lightest sleep phase.
