BETHANY WINS PAC CROWN WITH SWEEP
The Bethany Bison defended their PAC championship title Wednesday by sweeping the host Waynesburg Yellow Jackets by final scores of 13-10 and 11-6.  The Bison collected their 24 runs on 36 hits led by CF Matt King, who went 7-for-11 with two home runs, six runs scored and six RBI.  3B Marc Paoletta had six hits in 10 at-bats and drove in six runs.  C Steve Opfermann and 1B Mike Houck added five hits apiece.   Justin Deem notched the victory in game one, surrendering just two earned runs on nine hits in six and one-third innings of work.  Josh Molnar won the nightcap in relief of Pat Looman, who yielded four hits and one earned run in four and a third.   Molnar, who shutdown the Jackets in the final two and two-thirds in game one, scattered six hits and gave up three earned runs in the final four and two-thirds of game two.   Waynesburg appeared headed for its fourth tournament crown when it took a 9-3 lead after three frames in the first game.  Bethany rallied with five runs in the fourth and three in the sixth and never trailed in the nightcap.  The Bison cushioned a 7-6 lead in the second game with a four-run ninth.  Bethany, led by head coach Rick Carver, won its first of three tournament titles in 1996.
