Kim, an Angry Trainer Fitness fan, recently wrote to me and asked me what I thought of Jamie Eason and her 12 Week Trainer program. To be honest, I’ve been following Eason on Twitter for months now and regularly check in on her Facebook page. The Live Fit 12 Week Trainer is broken down into 3 x four week phases, and Jamie has designed each section to build upon what you’ve accomplished in the previous phase. In Phase 1, the program starts with a weight-training regimen to build muscle mass and a clean eating diet.
The program is extensive, with not only daily workouts for you to follow, but sample meal plans as well. Jamie reveals that her parents and brother are all followers of her plan in addition to her clients, and all have achieved long lasting, sustainable results. Hey everyone – I’m back from my Mexico trip (full update to follow soon) and itching to get back into some Angry Trainer business! From my own personal point of view, I can honestly say I’ve been on the receiving end of sexual comments and provocative statements from my clients many times. Think about it, with some clients I’m with them 3 hours per week, one on one, exercising and talking.

I’ve talked about Kirstie Alley many times before here on the site – and there’s no denying that she looks amazing these days – fit and trim. Well now it seems that Kirstie is issuing a challenge of sorts in an effort to get people moving and to help them lose weight. Here’s the thing, Kirstie of all people knows that in order for a fitness program to be successful, it has to be a realistic plan, and it can’t be excessive. I remember Kirstie on Dancing With The Stars, where she talked about how hard the dancing was in the beginning and how tired and sore it made her.
Even more infuriatingly, Kirstie says in the piece, “People don’t have to do monotonous, zombie workouts that are boring”, inferring that dance is better and more entertaining than other forms of exercise. Jamie says, “You can’t sculpt what you don’t have” and argues that the added muscle mass will speed up your metabolism.
Each day of every week has a printable guide for that day’s workout and eating schedule, and includes different dietary recommendations for men and women.
She says you’ll feel better in just days and if you stick with the program you’ll get terrific results. Remember, variety in your training is key to your success, so there’s nothing wrong with hitting the weights and focusing on a bodybuilder type routine for a few months.
Since in her first month there is ZERO cardio its still tough for me to swallow since most of my muscle building workouts are very cardio like. You do not want to be in the gym, day in and day out, using the wrong form and wasting your time. In Overcoming Gravity, the progressions are in much smaller steps which allows for the reader to pick up at his or her ability easily and immediately begin developing their strength. I can tell you that it’s no small feat at any age to do what Kirstie did, let alone as a 60-year-old woman! On the People magazine website, Alley states that beginning on New Years Day, she’ll be dancing for 1–2 hours per day, for 100 days straight. While I agree that with bad instruction or lack of direction some exercise programs can feel that way, the truth is that no form of exercise, when performed correctly, should be boring.
She obviously found something in dancing that worked well for her when other programs had fallen short.
Jamie has launched the 12 Week Trainer program in an effort to help people get in shape – but does it work – and will it get the Angry Trainer seal of approval. The reason is simple – tried and true exercises and healthy eating work for most people. You start with 4 days of exercise per week and by week 5, you add two more days for a total of 6 weight training workouts a week.
Jamie also includes some suggested supplements like fish oil and multi vitamins in the diet plan. So there’s no real functional, stability or specific core training or one-legged exercises, kettlebells, TRX, or resistance band work written into the program.
Just be sure to use Jamie’s program, like others, as a tool in your arsenal to get fit and healthy. The unfortunate thing is so many woman are scared of doing that much weight training, where it is usually what they need to do more of in order to see change.
These fitness books will teach you the right techniques and the ideal form to get the results that you want. It ends with bodybuilding contests, but if that’s not your goal, you can simply ignore that and use the training tips instead.
We’ve all heard the jokes, innuendo, comments and accusations about personal trainers who date (or sleep) with their clients – both male and female. But there’s been many instances where the opportunity certainly existed for me to become involved with a client. But in my 20 years as a trainer, I can honestly say I have only dated ONE client and it actually turned into a nearly 4 year long relationship that in the end just didn’t work. I don't know if i would ask him out it's not my style and I don't really see myself as someone who guys see that way, i do a very good job of being one of the lads.

My only concern for Kirstie is whether she can keep the weight off – we all know she has a history of yo-yo weight loss and gain – a pattern I’ve discussed before at Angry Trainer Fitness.
Whenever someone goes full force in one direction, the likelihood is that they’ll eventually quit because the plan isn’t sustainable.
Jamie also says that women shouldn’t fear building too much muscle and that they NEED to train with weights – advice she clearly follows herself. It’s without a doubt one of the more complete and intricate plans out there, and it can help both men and women get into great shape. It's so great to have a program I look forward to doing each day, and with Jamie's continuous facebook updates it keeps me motivated.
In fact just last week I heard a radio morning show host say that trainers were no different from prostitutes! Every time I’ve been around him he drops comments about sex, working the glutes, hip thrusts and is basically always on a fishing expedition to see which trainee bites. I don’t even need equipment – with just my bodyweight I can get an incredible workout, indoors, out, whether it’s hot or cold, in the woods, my house, or in a gym.
Certainly our population of deconditioned individuals need more structure in a fitness plan.
I was just going to go to the class a few times a week, but after my first class I went everyday.
And finally Phase 3 jacks up the entire workout by super setting your weight training, and the inclusion of High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT). You can track your progress, connect with others enrolled in the program, and even watch how to exercise videos.
But interval sprints and some plyometrics are included later in the program, in the amped up Phase 3.
Many times, at least in my case, it’s been female clients who have husbands who travel a lot and generally ignore them.
I doubt anything would happen but you just never know, my luck with guys has to change at some point. Where is the progression from dancing for 10 or 15 minutes per day and working up to an hour, or two? The fact is, with certain dance you CAN’T perform them anywhere – you need a certain amount of space and the surfaces need to be level and smooth. Plus many people have injuries, whether with their back, feet, knees etc – and for them dance is not ideal. I like the high-intensity workouts like or any hiit workouts that I invent myself. Within all the phases, Jamie also provides diet and supplement suggestions to maximize your time in the gym, plus a video intro to keep you informed. In those situations the trainer is sometimes the only person who that the client has to talk to and connect with. After a thorough physical assesment we create a personal training program that is completely designed around your goals, objectives and abilities. Whoever stuck with the plan is now a slave to it and will have trouble readjusting to a new, more realistic regime. Personally I would have liked to have seen other forms of exercise included in Kirstie’s plan and a more realistic challenge.
Granted, I eventually started to add weight training into that, but for me it became a domino effect. I can see that for people who don't like to exercise, dancing can be appealing, fun and it doesn't 'feel' like exercise.
In my opinion 5 days per week of dancing at 45 minutes to an hour would be plenty for most people and a great goal for people to aim for. I L-O-V-E-D to go to Zumba, but I always felt like crap when I ate like crap, so I started eating healthier. I started seeing serious results and knew that to get even better results I needed to add weights. I am a single mom with a two year old and a newborn, I am lucky to have enough time to run three miles or do a hardcore 20 minute strength training workout. Some people don't like the muscle-look that exercise can actual give you, and they rather feel good about actual moving and doing some kind of exercise.
Although we still exercised together on a regular basis, I just couldn’t take money from her – it felt wrong. Like I said, to each their own :) There's all kinds of exercise programs because there's all kinds of people roaming the earth!
