I’d love to hear some Ideas from you ladies about how to make the smell last longer with those? Dianna, I’d like to know too, though mine from last year still have a little scent, just not quite as strong. Anyway - several years later I brought home a bunch of large pine cones that Mr Quirky's mother had been collecting from a tree in her front yard.
Take out your not so nice needle nose pliers (not the ones your husband uses on the computer and for other special stuff). Cut the overhanging paper every two inches or so and fold the pieces in towards the center of the bottom of the tree. If you have a paper mache tree you don't have to wrap it, but paper is best for the styrofoam trees because it covers the white or green color, and also works much better for gluing than the styrofoam does.
The last and VERY IMPORTANT step is to get out your hair dryer or heat gun and melt away all the glue gun hairs that will be hanging all over the trees. If you want the bottom of your tree to be finished off, cut a circle of vinyl, leather or felt and glue to the bottom of the tree.

Okay, that sure looks like a lot of work (and hazardous to the fingertips) but wow, really worth it. I just couldn't spend the money on those, especially seeing that the foam core was going to cause more work. Turns out this is totally doable with just hot glue, you just need patience and a lot of time.

I started out by gathering my larger pine cones and making a circle in the floor about the size I wanted the base to be.
Then I took it apart and started glueing the cones together, I jabbed them together a bit then glued anything that was toughing. Between layers I let it sit for 30 minutes to an hour, and I also let the first pine cone in every layer sit for a little while after being glued.
It's crucial they are dried before moving on, it takes a lot of jamming them together to keep from having to cut them down in the beginning. Here's the final product in it's little home in our living room, the lighting just wasn't good enough to justify taking more pictures.
Definitely sort through your cones so that the larger are on the bottom and the smaller are at the top.
Also, the closer you get to the top, make sure you're moving the pine cones slightly inward.
I'm sorry, but what kind of a world do we live in that someone can't clean up your yard for you? I literally just glued anything that was touching and then glued it some more to make sure it didn't budge. After a month of straight sweet potatoes, eggs, and sausage for breakfast I was dying for something different. Today we are sharing a creative idea for making a pine cone Christmas tree.A pine cone is shaped very much like the tree it comes from. You need a bit of glue here, but not too much because then it drips down and looks ugly on the tree! At the tip of the tree you can insert a pine cone tip into the little bitty hole that the wrapped paper creates at the top of the tree.

I had a easy go of this, the pine cones I took out of the neighbors yard were all pretty small. In the 18th century, it began to be illuminated by candles which were ultimately replaced by Christmas lights after the advent of electrification. I have about 30 other trees (I collect them) and it takes a while to figure out where to put them all.
Today, there are a wide variety of traditional ornaments, such as garland, tinsel, and candy canes. I often wonder if any of the prized, hand-crafted, gifts I gave my friends while I was growing up still exist. I hope you're selling those things because they're a lot of trouble to make and most folks would rather buy them I bet! An angel or star might be placed at the top of the tree to represent the angel Gabriel or the Star of Bethlehem from the Nativity. It’s exciting to share ideas and be inspired by your creativity.) Blogging is all about sharing and inspiration, hence Inspire Me Wednesday. Also - when you start the first row of bracts let the tips of them hang over the edge of the bottom of the tree.
