This new recognition fits into INNOVIM’s existing goal to serve as a change agent and leader in the weather community. As an Ambassador, INNOVIM has committed to working with NOAA and other Ambassadors to strengthen national resilience against extreme weather.
The devastating impacts of extreme events can be reduced through improved readiness, which is why the Weather-Ready Nation initiative is so important. Building a Weather-Ready Nation starts with these internal actions, but requires the action of a vast nationwide network of partners including other government agencies and emergency managers, researchers, the media, insurance industry, non-profits, the private sector, the Weather Enterprise and more.

Through a series of symposiums, the national dialog engages these partners in assessing why the nation is experiencing such extreme impacts.
The goal of the dialog is to support the mission of the National Weather Service by reducing risk and increasing community resilience for future extreme events. Access to these global observations and science-based analysis of climate data has provided our Nation with unique abilities to minimize climate related risk and maximize climate-related opportunities. Climate change and variability affect the nation’s security, economy, natural resources, and public and environmental health.

The R2O process will utilize Operational Readiness Evaluation (ORE) sessions at the OPG, which will assess candidate capabilities in a realistic NWS operational setting. The program also provides data and information management support for national and international climate assessments.
