With much of Texas expected to experience freezing temperatures, chilling winds, ice storms and snow, the Texas Department of Public Safety urges citizens to take extra precautions to prevent serious health problems including frostbite and hypothermia. At the first signs of possible frostbite – redness or pain in any skin area – get out of the cold or protect any exposed skin.Watch for hypothermia symptoms. A strong wind, even in only moderately cold weather, can cause a wind chill far below freezing.

Sent from the Office of the State Fire Marshal“Expected sub-freezing temperatures will tax our heating and electrical systems as we try to stay warm, so a little caution can help you make you it safely through the extreme weather,” said State Fire Marshal Coan. They will give you the earliest possible warning that something is wrong so you can escape safely,” said State Fire Marshal Coan.
