Avoid Overexertion: Shoveling snow or pushing your car takes a lot of effort in storm conditions.
The most basic emergency preparedness plans should include a 72 hour survival kit containing the most important items necessary for survival.
The individual emergency preparedness kits should be packed in a backpack if possible, for those who can carry one. Include the following items in a pre-packed box that you can throw in the car if a quick escape is necessary. Keep extra family supplies at the house in addition to the bug out backpack emergency kits. Almost everyone has an emergency first aid kit in their house, but many people overlook the advantages of having a car emergency kit. A winter emergency car kit will also include an ice scraper, tow rope, a collapsible shovel, knit gloves, hand warmers, and a blanket. Snow can plug your vehicle's exhaust system and cause deadly carbon monoxide gas to enter your car.
If your car breaks down in a remote area in the extreme cold with snow on the ground, it will be more difficult for emergency personnel to get to your aid quickly.
Even if you don’t plan to leave your home, or are unable to do so, taking steps toward emergency preparedness could save your life. If you do not already have a winter car emergency kit, make sure you get one because it could save your life! A car emergency kit could be the difference between life or death in an extenuating circumstance.
An emergency car kit will have useful items such as an air compressor, first aid kit, tire sealant, flashlight, jumper cables, and road flares.

Before I talk about the emergency kit you need to have in your home, I want to talk about the emergency kit you should have in your car.  An emergency could happen while you are driving so it is smart to have a small tub in your trunk with a few emergency essentials. This is what my emergency kit for my car looks like, it has a blanket, an extra pair of sneakers and socks (just in case I am wearing heels or sandals and need to vacate my car and walk), a flashlight, a power flare, and water. I stock my kit with non-perishable food from Costco because it comes in bulk.  I chose items that we would eat normally like tuna, protein bars, peanut butter, fruit cups, canned chili, canned beans, and pasta. Flashlights and a radio with extra batteries and a Powerflare, first aid kit, and toilet paper.  If you have never heard of Powerflare go to their website, it is a much safer alternative to a flare. Keep items in airtight plastic bags and put your entire disaster supplies kit in one or two easy-to-carry containers, such as an unused trashcan, camping backpack, or duffel bag. Carisa, instead of kindling you can save dryer lint in ziplock baggies for use as kindling.
Empty egg cartons work well too – stuff dryer lint in the wells and pour melted crayons or candle stubs over the lint. Critical items needed in emergency survival kits are food, water, sanitary supplies and medicines. One family member’s pack should be stocked with a camping saw, a collapsible shovel, several flares and a traveling first aid kit. Remember to also add emergency communications and lighting supplies to an earthquake disaster kit for the car. In the event of an accident, a car emergency kit will have items that can be useful until help arrives. Prepping for unplanned events by creating home earthquake preparedness kits, survival backpacks, and 72 hour survival kits for each family member will give you the opportunity to deal with shock and get your thoughts together immediately after a disaster.
Store beans, rice, grains and other storable emergency preparedness foods in sealed plastic 5 gallon containers.

What makes winter so dangerous is that if your car breaks down in a remote area and temperature levels are low, hypothermia and even freezing to death are realistic outcomes if you are not properly prepared. Household emergency preparedness kits should inlcude like tents, portable toilet facilities, tools and bulk water storage. Examine the following suggestions for ideas to help create earthquake emergency kits or general 72 hour survival kits.
Grab the blanket from your winter car emergency kit or grab warm clothing from your suitcase if you are traveling. One of these kits can contain items like tow rope, collapsible shovel, ice scraper, tire inflator, flashlight, signal cone, blanket, gloves, and hand warmers. When storing items in general household survival kits, do so in plastic containers; and make a test run by placing them in the trunk of the car beforehand to be sure they fit.
We were able to get him onto the hammock and use the ropes across the rucksack pads to carry him down to the car park at Pen-y-Pass. It is just as important to have an emergency kit in your car as having a first aid kit in your home. There are car emergency kits that are specific to this season and are great for people who live in colder areas. Keep your survival backpack in the car or in a covered area where you park for easy accessibility. This kit could be a life saver and will have many useful items in case your vehicle breaks down.
