FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

As one of their largest investments people typically have a bunch of questions before makingany decisions , below are a few of the most commonplace ones…

Unless you’re a trained contractor, most roofing tasks shouldn’t be carried out yourself. In addition remember that a large number of manufacturers of products used in the repair of the roof will not warranty those items unless a licensed professional performs the job. Something else to keep in mind is that working on a roof may be very dangerous, so is it really worth jeopardizing your health in order to save money?

It would be great if we could give you a straight forward response to that question! But there actually is no single answer fits all for each question like that. There are a lot of different products readily available and each has its own advantages and faults. To figure out which is the right roof for you, you should have an expert come and check out your roof and they can make recommendations based on what they see, your roof design, the environment you reside in and, of course, your budget.

It definitely depends on the type of roof and what evaluations are required. Also, keep in mind that we’re working outdoors in the elements, so if the weather isn’t good and we cannot work on certain days then this will definitely add more time to the job. A smaller home may take around a week or so, while larger commercial jobs could be anything from a few weeks to a number of months. Just see to it your roofing contractor keeps you updated and you should be fine.

Since your roof is continuously subjected to the weather, this means your roof is will deteriorate gradually. The pace at which it degrades will depend upon a number of factors. Those include; the quality of the original components that were used as well as the craftsmanship, the level of abuse it will have to take from the weather, how well the roof is preserved and the style of the roof. Most roofing contractors will quote around 20 years for a well-built and properly maintained roof, but that can never be guaranteed because of the above factors. Our suggestion is to always keep your roof well maintained and get regular checkups to be sure it lasts as long as possible.

You should never pressure-wash your roof, as you run the risk of eliminating any covering minerals that have been included to provide cover from the elements. Additionally, you really should stay away from chlorine-based bleach cleaners since they can easily also lower the life-span of your roof. When you converse with your roof cleaning professional, tell them to use an EPA-approved algaecide/fungicide to clean your roof. That will eliminate the ugly algae and staining without damaging the tile or shingles.

Some roofing leakages are difficult to find. Often the water shows up at a ceiling area far-off from the leakage. If your ceiling has a plastic vapor barrier between the drywall and the attic insulation, press the insulation aside and try to find flow stains on the plastic. Frequently water runs to openings in the vapor barrier, such as at ceiling light components.

Wetness that gets away into the cold attic from the spaces below often condenses on cold nails. Sometimes you can find this if you climb up into your attic on a cold night. The nails will look white because they’re frosted. When the attic warms up a bit throughout the day, the frost melts and leaks, then the nails frost up during the night once again and so on.
