FAQs
As one of their most significant investments people always have a number of questions prior to coming to a conclusion , listed here are a number of the more commonplace ones…
Unless you are a certified contractor, most roofing tasks shouldn’t be performed yourself. Also always remember that almost all manufacturers of products used in the roof repair will not warranty those products unless a certified roofing contractor performs the task. Something else to keep in mind is that working on a roof may be very dangerous, so is it really worth endangering your health for you to save money?
It would be really good if we were able to give you a simple answer to this question! But there actually is no one answer that fits all for each question like that. There are many unique products readily available and each one will have its own merits and disadvantages. To determine which is the best roof for your home, you should have an expert come and take a look at your roof and they can make recommendations according to what they find, your roof design, the climate you live in and, of course, your budget.
It really depends upon the kind of roof you currently have and exactly what surveys are required. Also, bear in mind that we will be working outside in the elements, so if the weather isn’t good and we can’t work on particular days then this is going to add more time to the job. A small home may take about a week or so, whereas more substantial industrial jobs could be anything from several weeks to a number of months. Just ensure your roofing contractor keeps you updated and you should be fine.
Considering that your roof is continually exposed to the outside elements, it means your roof is going to diminish gradually. The speed at which it breaks down will depend upon a number of factors. Those include; the quality of the original materials that were used as well as the craftsmanship, the level of abuse it has to take from the elements, how well the roof is maintained and the type of roof. Most roofing companies will quote around 20 years for a well-built and well-kept roof, but that can never be promised because of the above factors. Our advice is to always keep your roof well maintained and get regular inspections to make sure it lasts as long as possible.
You should not ever pressure wash your roof, as you run the risk of eliminating any protective minerals that have been included to provide protection from the weather. In addition, you should stay clear of chlorine-based bleach cleaning products as they can also cut down the life of your roof. When you communicate with your roof cleaning expert, ask them to use an EPA-approved algaecide/fungicide to clean your roof. This will clear away the unsightly algae and staining without destroying the tile or shingles.

More About Bethania, NC
Bethania is the oldest municipality in Forsyth County, North Carolina, United States, and was most recently incorporated in 1995, upon the reactivation of the original 1838/1839 town charter. In 2009, Bethania celebrated the 250th anniversary of its establishment in 1759. As of the 2010 census, the town population was 328.[5]
The first planned Moravian settlement in North Carolina, Bethania exists as the only remaining independent, continuously active Moravian village in the southern United States, and is the only known existing Germanic-type linear agricultural village in the South. The 500-acre (2.0 km2) Bethania National Historic Landmark district is the largest such district in Forsyth County. Bethania and its 18th- and 19th-century properties are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Homeowner maintenance consists of cleaning up the leaves and debris from the roofing system’s valleys and seamless gutters. Particles in the valleys can cause water to wick under the shingles and cause damage to the interior of the roof. Clogged up rain seamless gutters can trigger water to flow back under the shingles on the eaves and cause damage, regardless of the roofing product.
The best method to protect your roofing system is to stay off it. Also, seasonal modifications in the weather condition are typically the most destructive forces. A leaky roof can harm ceilings, walls and home furnishings. To protect structures and their contents from water damage, roofing contractors repair work and set up roofing systems made from tar or asphalt and gravel; rubber or thermoplastic; metal; or shingles made of asphalt, slate, fiberglass, wood, tile, or other material.
There are 2 types of roofing systems: flat and pitched (sloped). Most commercial, industrial and apartment or condo buildings have flat or somewhat sloping roofing systems. A lot of houses have pitched roofing systems. Some roofing contractors work on both types; others specialize. The majority of flat roofings are covered with numerous layers of products. Roofing professionals first put a layer of insulation on the roofing deck.
Next, they install partly overlapping layers of roofing felt, a material filled in bitumen, over the surface area. Roofing contractors use a mop to spread hot bitumen over the surface area and under the next layer. This seals the joints and makes the surface area watertight. Roofers repeat these steps to build up the desired number of layers, called plies. To apply shingles, roofing contractors first lay, cut, and tack 3-foot strips of roof felt lengthwise over the whole roof. Then, beginning with the bottom edge, they staple or nail overlapping rows of shingles to the roof. Workers step and cut the felt and shingles to fit converging roofing system surface areas and to fit around vent pipelines and chimneys.
Finally, roofing contractors cover exposed nailheads with roof cement or caulking to prevent water leak. Roofing professionals who utilize tile, metal shingles or shakes follow a comparable process. Some roofing professionals also water-proof and damp-proof masonry and concrete walls and floorings. To prepare surface areas for waterproofing, they hammer and sculpt away rough spots, or eliminate them with a rubbing brick, prior to applying a coat of liquid waterproofing compound.
When damp-proofing, they generally spray a bitumen-based covering on interior or exterior surface areas. Asphalt is the most commonly utilized roof product. Asphalt items include shingles, roll-roofing, built-up roofing, and customized bitumen membranes. Asphalt shingles are usually the most common and affordable choice for property roofing. They are available in a range of colors, shapes and textures.
Laminated shingles consist of more than one layer of tabs to offer extra thickness. Interlocking shingles are utilized to provide greater wind resistance. And big individual shingles generally can be found in rectangle-shaped and hexagonal shapes. Roll-roofing items are generally utilized in property applications, mainly for underlayments and flashings. They can be found in 4 various kinds of material: smooth-surfaced, saturated felt, specialty-eaves flashings, and mineral-surfaced.
Smooth-surfaced items are used mostly as flashing to seal the roofing at crossways and protrusions, and for supplying extra deck security at the roof’s eaves and valleys. Saturated felt is utilized as an underlayment between the roofing system deck and the roof product. Specialty-eaves flashings are normally utilized in climates where ice dams and water backups prevail.
BUR is used on flat and low-sloped roofings and includes numerous layers of bitumen and ply sheets. Parts of a BUR system include the roofing system deck, a vapor retarder, insulation, membrane, and emerging material. A modified bitumen-membrane assembly consists of constant plies of saturated felts, covered felts, materials or mats between which alternate layers of bitumen are applied, either appeared or unsurfaced.
