FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Being one of their most significant expenditures people always have a bunch of questions prior to makingany decisions , below are a few of the more common ones…
Unless you are a properly trained roofing professional, most roofing work shouldn’t be carried out yourself. Additionally remember that almost all manufacturers of products used in the roof repair will not warranty those products unless a licensed professional performs the task. Something else to remember is that working on a roof can be very hazardous, so is it really worth risking your health for you to save money?
It would be fantastic if we were able to give you a simple response to that question! But there really is no one answer that fits all for each question like that. There are plenty of different products available and each and every one will have its own benefits and faults. To determine which is the best roof for you, you really should have a contractor come and check out your roof and they can make suggestions based on what they have seen, your roof design, the environment you reside in and, of course, your budget.
It really depends on the type of roof and what evaluations are mandated. Also, keep in mind that we will be working outside in the elements, so if the weather isn’t good and we just can’t work on certain days then this will add time to the job. A small home might take about a week or so, whereas larger industrial jobs could be anything from a few weeks to a number of months. Just be sure your roofing contractor keeps you updated and you really should be fine.
Since your roof is constantly exposed to the outside elements, it means your roof is going to break down gradually. The speed at which it degrades will be dependent on a number of factors. These include; the quality of the original components used and the craftsmanship, the amount of abuse it has to take from the weather, how well the roof is preserved and the design of the roof. Most roofing contractors will quote around 20 years for a well-built and well-kept roof, but that can never be guaranteed as a result of the above factors. Our suggestion is to always keep your roof well maintained and get regular roof inspections to make sure it lasts as long as possible.
You shouldn’t ever pressure-wash your roof, as you take the risk of removing any covering minerals that have been added to offer cover from the elements. Additionally, you should stay clear of chlorine-based bleach cleaners as they can easily also cut down the lifespan of your roof. When you speak with your roof cleaning expert, ask them to use an EPA-approved algaecide/fungicide to clean your roof. That will eliminate the unsightly algae and yellowing without ruining the tile or shingles.

Some roof leaks are difficult to locate. In some cases the water appears at a ceiling spot distant from the leakage. If your ceiling has a plastic vapor barrier in between the drywall and the attic insulation, press the insulation aside and try to find circulation spots on the plastic. Often water runs to openings in the vapor barrier, such as at ceiling lighting fixture.

Moisture that gets away into the cold attic from the rooms below often condenses on cold nails. In some cases you can find this if you go up into your attic on a cold night. The nails will look white because they’re frosted. When the attic warms up a bit during the day, the frost melts and leaks, then the nails frost up at night once again and so on.
