FAQs
Being one of their largest investments people usually have a number of questions before coming to a conclusion , below are a few of the most common ones…
Unless you’re a properly trained contractor, most roofing tasks really should not be undertaken yourself. In addition remember that a lot of manufacturers of products used in the repair of the roof will not warranty those items unless a certified roofing contractor carries out the job. The other thing to bear in mind is that working on a roof can be very dangerous, so is it really worth jeopardizing your health for you to save money?
It would be fantastic if we were able to give you a simple response to this question! However, there really is no one answer fits all for every question like that. There are plenty of different products readily available and each and every one has its own merits and disadvantages. To determine which is the ideal roof for you, you really should have an expert come and check out your roof and they can make suggestions according to what they find, the type of roof you have, the environment you live in and, of course, your budget.
It definitely depends upon the kind of roof you currently have and exactly what inspections are mandated. Also, remember that we will be working outdoors in the elements, so if the weather isn’t good and we just can’t work on particular days then this will add more time to the task. A smaller home might take around a week or so, while more substantial industrial jobs may be anything from a few weeks to a number of months. Just make sure your roofing company keeps you updated and you should be fine.
Since your roof is consistently subjected to the outside elements, it means your roof is going to break down over time. The rate at which it degrades will depend upon a number of variables. Those include; the grade of the original components used and the craftsmanship, the amount of abuse it will have to take from the elements, how well the roof is maintained and the style of the roof. Most roofing companies will estimate around 20 years for a well-built and well-kept roof, but obviously that can never be promised due to the above variables. Our advice is to consistently keep your roof well maintained and get regular roof inspections to be sure it lasts as long as possible.
You should not ever pressure-wash your roof, as you run the risk of getting rid of any protective materials that have been included to give cover from the elements. Also, you really should steer clear of chlorine-based bleach cleaners since they can also cut down the life of your roof. When you speak to your roof cleaning professional, ask them to use an EPA-approved algaecide/fungicide to clean your roof. This will eliminate the unpleasant algae and discoloration without ruining the tile or shingles.

Some roofing leaks are hard to locate. In some cases the water appears at a ceiling area distant from the leak. If your ceiling has a plastic vapor barrier between the drywall and the attic insulation, press the insulation aside and try to find flow stains on the plastic. Often water runs to openings in the vapor barrier, such as at ceiling light.

Wetness that leaves into the cold attic from the rooms below frequently condenses on cold nails. Sometimes you can spot this if you climb up into your attic on a cold night. The nails will look white due to the fact that they’re frosted. When the attic warms up a bit throughout the day, the frost melts and drips, then the nails frost up during the night again and so on.
