FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
As one of their biggest financial investments people typically have a lotof questions before makingany decisions , listed here are a few of the more commonplace ones…
Unless you are a qualified roofing professional, most roofing work shouldn’t be performed yourself. In addition keep in mind that almost all manufacturers of products used in the repair of the roof won’t warranty those items unless a licensed professional performs the work. The other thing to keep in mind is that working on a roof may be very hazardous, so is it really worth endangering your health so you can save money?
It would be really good if we were able to give you a simple response to that question! However, there really is no one answer fits all for each question like that. There are a lot of different products readily available and each and every one has its own merits and disadvantages. To determine which is the ideal roof for you, you should have an expert come and examine your roof and they can make recommendations based on what they discover, your roof design, the climate you reside in and, of course, your budget.
It definitely is dependent on the kind of roof you have and exactly what inspections are required. Also, bear in mind that we will be working outdoors in the elements, so if the weather isn’t good and we cannot work on particular days then this will add more time to the job. A small home may take about a week or so, whereas much larger commercial projects may be anything from a few weeks to a few months. Just make sure your roofing contractor keeps you updated and you really should be fine.
Given that your roof is continuously exposed to the outside elements, it means your roof is going to degrade over time. The speed at which it degrades will be dependent on a variety of factors. These include; the quality of the original components used along with the workmanship, the amount of abuse it will have to take from the weather, how well the roof is taken care of and the type of roof. Most roofing professionals will quote around 20 years for a well-built and properly maintained roof, but obviously that can never be promised because of the above issues. Our advice is to always keep your roof well maintained and get regular inspections to make sure it lasts as long as possible.
You should never pressure-wash your roof, as you take the risk of getting rid of any protective minerals that have been added to offer cover from the elements. In addition, you should try to stay away from chlorine-based bleach cleaning products since they could also lower the life of your roof. When you speak with your roof cleaning specialist, ask them to use an EPA-approved algaecide/fungicide to clean your roof. This will eliminate the unattractive algae and discoloration without damaging the tile or shingles.

Some roofing system leaks are tough to locate. In some cases the water appears at a ceiling spot remote from the leakage. If your ceiling has a plastic vapor barrier in between the drywall and the attic insulation, press the insulation aside and search for circulation discolorations on the plastic. Typically water goes to openings in the vapor barrier, such as at ceiling lighting fixture.

Wetness that gets away into the cold attic from the rooms below typically condenses on cold nails. Often you can find this if you go up into your attic on a cold night. The nails will look white because they’re frosted. When the attic heats up a bit during the day, the frost melts and drips, then the nails frost up during the night again and so on.
