FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

As one of their largest financial investments people usually have a ton of questions before coming to a conclusion , below are a few of the most common ones…

Unless you’re a properly trained contractor, most roofing tasks should not be performed yourself. In addition remember that the majority of manufacturers of products utilized in the roof repair won’t warranty those products unless a licensed professional carries out the task. The other thing to always remember is that working on a roof is going to be very dangerous, so is it really worth endangering your health so you can save money?

It would be really good if we could give you a straight forward response to this question! However there really is no one answer that fits all for every question like that. There are a lot of different products readily available and each one has its own advantages and disadvantages. To determine which is the best roof for your home, you should have a professional come and examine your roof and they can make suggestions according to what they discover, your roof design, the environment you reside in and, of course, your budget.

It definitely depends on the kind of roof you have and what inspections are needed. Also, keep in mind that we’re working outdoors in the elements, so if the weather is bad and we cannot work on particular days then this will definitely add more time to the task. A small home could take about a week or so, whereas larger industrial jobs may be anything from several weeks to a number of months. Just make sure your roofing contractor keeps you updated and you really should be fine.

Considering that your roof is consistently exposed to the outside elements, this means your roof is will break down over time. The rate at which it deteriorates will depend upon a range of factors. These include; the quality of the original components that were used as well as the workmanship, the level of abuse it has to take from the elements, how well the roof is preserved and the type of roof. Most roofing contractors will quote around 20 years for a well-built and properly maintained roof, but obviously that can never be promised as a result of the above issues. Our advice is to consistently keep your roof well maintained and get regular inspections to be sure it lasts as long as possible.

You should never pressure wash your roof, as you run the risk of taking off any protective minerals that have been included to offer cover from the elements. On top of that, you really should steer clear of chlorine-based bleach cleaners since they could also lower the life of your roof. When you speak with your roof cleaning professional, ask them to use an EPA-approved algaecide/fungicide to clean your roof. That will clear away the unpleasant algae and staining without ruining the tile or shingles.

Some roofing leaks are difficult to find. Sometimes the water reveals up at a ceiling spot distant from the leak. If your ceiling has a plastic vapor barrier between the drywall and the attic insulation, push the insulation aside and try to find flow stains on the plastic. Typically water runs to openings in the vapor barrier, such as at ceiling lighting fixture.

Wetness that leaves into the cold attic from the spaces below typically condenses on cold nails. Sometimes you can spot this if you go up into your attic on a cold night. The nails will look white due to the fact that they’re frosted. When the attic warms up a bit throughout the day, the frost melts and leaks, then the nails frost up at night once again and so on.
